The truth is that the public genuinely voted for Modi in 2019 and preferred him to Rahul or Mamata or Lalu or Akhilesh as PM. Left-liberals need to find a PM face who is honest, not a nepo kid dynast, has a track record of good leadership, and does not divide and appease vote banks on the basis of caste or religion. Someone like Naveen Patnaik would be a good choice, else an outsider like Narayana Murthy, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Raghuram Rajan, or an ex army general.
