How is this possible when the Supreme Court has said that reservation should not cross 50%? Moreover, it’s very problematic because this is a job that requires knowledge of science and technology. It will be absolutely disastrous for the country if patents are granted to undeserving inventions and denied to deserving inventions. That’s why hiring must be on merit and not on the basis of identity politics.
Why is this comment marked trollish? Is the moderator denying that reservation has spawned corruption, in the form of issuing fake caste certificates and starting a parallel “donation admission” business in private medical and engineering colleges for general category candidates squeezed out of government medical and engineering colleges?
In November 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Modi government's decision (through the 103rd amendment of the Constitution) to reserve an additional 10% seats for economically weaker sections (irrespective of cast), over and above the previously permitted limit of 50%. Reservation is now 60%!
There is a simple solution to this: appoint two patent examiners to examine a patent application, one from the general category and one from the reserved category. The general category person can guide the reserved category person. If the reserved category person makes a mistake, the general category person can correct him.
