Sorry but I am a person from Bengal who thinks that Bengal is slowly slipping into a dictatorship as election and voting rights lie at the heart of democracy which is unfortunately being denied by the state Govt!

Senior Advocate Bikash Bhattacharya (who is also a Left Rajya Sabha MP) argues before Justice Amrita Sinha that a certain area showed 95% polling according to the state, despite a large number of residents not being able to vote and some boycotting the vote. How is that possible?

We don't know what the Calcutta High Court is going to rule, but if it annuls the Panchayat election results because of mass violence and rigging, won't it amount to a solid ground for imposing President's rule under Article 356? In the history of India, we have seen courts annul elections of individual MLAs and MPs on technical grounds. For example, in 2019, the Madras High Court had quashed the election of an MP because of a false affidavit. But quashing an entire Panchayat election on grounds of voter intimidation would probably be unprecedented. I don't think it's ever happened before.

PS: My only interest is as a constitutional history enthusiast. I couldn't care one way or the other about AITC, BJP or another political grouping.
