It would seem hypocritical if someone who swears by Marx ends up working for CAM and advising Adani. While one reason could be to pay back an educational loan, an educational loan can still be paid back if one works for a think tank. Also, many of these people stay on in firms and become partners, much after the loan is paid back.

So what's going on? Do people have a change of heart and become right-wing? Or were they just fake and pretending to be leftists all along? Maybe to seem intellectual and impress girls?
They're confused souls who just want to rebel against the sanskar that lets them rebel. Their rebellion wouldn't last a second in.. well let's say other cultures.

But they know they need money to live the privileged affluent lives they've always been living and do it with zero interference from their folks, so they join corporate set ups and bring their atheism and moral decay along with them.
Yes, because moral decay isn't visible among the god fearing RWs of India. Lol!
Because these days just about everyone questioning those right of centre are termed as left wing. What I mean to say is that space at the centre has shrunk. Most law students that you are speaking of are centrists or barely left of it. Left wing was a whole different ball game at least in its pure sense. It signified moving away from one’s cozy existence in the cities to live and work with one of the many marginalized peasant and/or labor communities. Do you know many from the law schools who would fit that bill? Do you know many who would even seriously contemplate it?

Further, even these centrists or slightly left off centre people can have quite a right wing economic outlook. See, RW is also not merely a political outlook (think traditional Fascism), it is also a view on fiscal and the economic (think traditional conservatism or even Tony Blair’s β€˜new’ labor).

In sum, a deep reading and a nuanced thought is required to actually make sense of what you observe. If not, then we are left with mere trolling. Hope this helps.
