As can be seen from the latest meme of NUJS Meme Society, NUJS has taken a decision to impose electives on students. Rather than choice system where students would opt for 3/10 subjects as per choice, they have made 3 groups of 3 subjects each and students have to compulsorily select one group. The reasoning college is giving is because in choice based system, electives by strict professor who were serious with academic rigour kept getting scrapped, whereas professors who gave easy marks kept getting students. What are your views
Many universities across the world have that system. It's nothing new. The grouping has been made mostly based on common themes. Even in NUJS, similar practice was there in Menon and Chimni's times. As for the reasoning provided, that's very accurate.
Noojies are smart but lazy/laidback, the moment they face any academic rigour they scream foul, is it the air in Kolkata?

Trolling aside, I belive this new system will be for the better. Grades should never be placed on a platter for the students to consume.
Nothing to do with Kolkata, there have been tons of hardworking NUJS students. There are even now. The lazy and jobless ones are usually the ones whining in legal india. Same holds for all law schools.
With new academic reforms and the 2023-24 SJA, NUJS seems to be on the path of declining rapidly. This year the college has the fewest PPO offers for the incoming fifth year batch. The SJA is run by egomanicial sycophants who are interested in partnering with vindictive faculty to impose stringent attendance norms & what they call academic rigour. It is more of simply allowing faculty to bully students by forcing electives on them. The campus infrastructure is crumbling. There’s no exchange programs or well run research centre’s. the SJA and admin are interested in imposing ultra strict attendance norms which take away from Nujsβ€˜a usp which is enough free time to be who you want to be and succeed at it
The research centres are functioning fine. The students who whine here are the ones who are not good enough to participate in the projects. Instead they would like to chill, not attend classes, not learn anything, and then ask for remedial classes before day zero and think that they are entitled to a job. NUJS would be well rid of such people, so that only hardworking ones are left.
There is already a similar thread on the same issue. Why Legally India is allowing Duplicate threads. Please merge the two
