I always thought that if a husband and wife are both working in a law firm, they should both work and contribute to the family income. They can live a very luxurious life with a double income. But now I see many cases, especially post-Covid, where the wife is choosing to stay at home and raise a child, while her husband works. The wife is giving up the opportunity to be a partner and is happy to to support her husband's career instead, just like tradwives of older generations. I see this even with women in top law firms, including grads of top NLUs, some of whom even have LLMs in corporate law from abroad. They are just sitting at home now and being a full-time tradwife. This seems f***ed up to me. It puts pressure on the man to work and the woman is losing valuable work ex and wasting her degree. It also decreases the family income. But this trend seems to be increasing and people don't mind a dip in the family income.

Isn't this kind of regressive and bad for women's empowerment? ☹️

Having a baby and then if you wish to bring it up in every good way imaginable lead to many hard choices. A lot of things need to fall in place for working parents to bring up a child, not the least of which is that the husband needs to be very involved in domestic matters, which many Indian men are simply not ready or willing to be. You can't just throw money at all problems and wish them to go away.
In the case of women lawyers, the likely reason is burnout, simple as that. It’s not a setback for feminism. Rather, making women work too hard is a setback for feminism for which law firms should take the blame. Now you may counter that why can’t the husband also take a break and become a househusband. Well, the reason is that women need adequate rest and relaxation to protect their bodies from certain medical and gynaecological problems that will later prevent or cause difficult pregnancies, or make it hard to nurse children. Men do not face this particular medical risk and so they should be the ones who work long hours. At the end of the day, both the husband and wife are making sacrifices.

Another thing: the women being spoken about should be called housewives instead of tradwives. Because tradwives denotes a conservative political ideology. Just because one is a housewife doesn’t mean one is politically conservative. All tradwives are housewives, but all housewives are not necessarily tradwives.
Seriously? Think again. Maybe get a better answer. Those pseudo feminist taught you how to get equality but failed to teach you how to respect that. It's nothing but a pure show of privilege ki mai toh ladki hu Mai kyu hustle karu. Agar husband hustle nhi karega toh divorce file karke maintenance toh le hi lungi.
Beauty of LI where you can speak the truth cuz it's an anonymous forum!
Perhaps if workplaces gave her the respect and dignity she is owed as a person. And recognised the value of her degrees and experience. Maybe staying at home and taking care of a baby would not seem more lucrative. As things stand though - I can’t imagine why anyone would want to leave their baby with someone else to go and be subjected to misogyny all day. All for some money? Doesn’t make much sense.
The men are happy to leave their babies at home to go to a toxic workplace. This is almost as bad as the bullshit science above it. The answer is simple. If firms and marriages were less toxic, both partners would keep decent hours and co-parent. They would both progress gradually until the kid is old enough to be independent.
Umm...aren't tradwives TikTok girls who get married at 20 and cosplay women from the 1950s?

What does this have to do with law firm resignations by women? They resign for entirely different reasons. They want to stop working as slaves.
