We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

So if their lateral process is anything similar, then in all likelihood, you're hired.
However, because of their size and structural bureaucracy, they sometimes tend to take long amounts of time in communicating their results. I'm aware of people who were informed by the partners regarding a PPO recommendation immediately and only received a formal communication from the HR more than six months later.
If you're aware that the partner likes you, then my advice would be to keep following up with the partner rather than the overworked/incompetent HR.
they interviewed - x date.
they communicated selection orally - x+ 1 week.
they sent an official email of selection x +2 months.
they sent an official retainer agreement x+3 months.
Any idea how long does the process usually take??
