GNLU has the most NE folks, specifically from Assam who bulk up the NE quota.
GNLU has a vibrant community of North Easterners because of the NE quota. Besides, they also come through the ST quota, though less in numbers there
NE people (other than Assam) are very, very low in numbers. This is a tragic example of why the ST reservation policy in India is flawed. Most ST reserved candidates are from BIMARU. Many don’t deserve this status: they are actually SCs and OBCs who got re-listed by the government as STs because of appeasement politics, since the ST quota has less competition. But no one cares about this injustice to the NE because the NE has just a few Lok Sabha seats while BIMARU has tons, and our reservation policy is all about appeasing electorally significant communities.
