Mod kindly keep this as a separate thread. Amidst all the toxicity in LI constructed by a very frustrated bloc (against NLU) over Brijesh Kalappa’s defeat, love has once again triumphed over hate when INC candidate - NLS alum Ms Motamma finally won the much contested seat of Mudigere and this concludes a great election result. Her news has been shared in the official portal of NLSIU ❀️
[Merged subject: Dalit Congress leader N Motamma becomes FIRST EVER NLU alum MLA (LLB NLSIU-LLM Penn)]

From B&B:

Nayana, a Congress leader and a Dalit, is a graduate of NLSIU's 2003 batch. She earlier worked at law firm Luthra & Luthra, and has also practiced before the Karnataka High Court. ...Motamma is the daughter of former Congress Minister C Motamma who had won from Mudigerie thrice between 1978 and 1999.

I have slightly mixed feeling about this tbh.

Yay: First ever NLU alum MLA, has an LLM from the US, educated leader, Dalit advancement etc

Nay: Nepo kid and dynasty ticket. Non-nepo kids Brijesh Kalappa and Jaiveer Shergill arguably worked harder for the Congress but were denied tickets in Karnataka and Punjab respectively, so both left. Congress should give tickets to non-nepo kids also.
She has an LLM from the US. Her declared assets are worth Rs 10 crore, including 3 residential buildings, 1 Mercedes Benz car and 1 Fortune car. Contrast that with Raghav Chaddha. Desi degree and only Rs 36 lakhs in assets, including a simple Swift Dzire car.

So who is more privileged and who is the real aam aadmi here? This is why I am against identity politics.

NLSIU can boast all they want, but this is a victory for dynasty politics and wealth, rather than a victory for NLU talent.
Exactly. Kind of petty how NLS is even boasting about this. Clearly, they seem to be running out of meaningful achievements to brag about. Indian elections are a joke.
She won the election. People voted for her and she got the most votes.

Feel free to delegitimize her all you want, but she achieved this and nothing you can say can take away her win.

She is actually doing something with her life. And I am confident she will do great things.
What does that even mean? She didn’t win because of her work profile or experience. She won because of her connections and caste. There was a murder-accused of INC who couldn’t even enter his district for campaigning due to HC orders but he still won the elections. The overwhelming majority of Indians don’t vote with their heads. They vote based on cheap identity affiliations and promise of freebies to reinforce their laziness against working hard. This is not a great achievement and this is also why this country will continue to remain third-world.
