To give an idea, here are GNLU students literally pomping about how they have 100%+ attendance and will have to now MISS classes to get through. How does it feel to have to attend classes regularly while others have it this easy? Imagine students on one end getting debarred while others don't need to bother at all.

How many of you take subjects offered by better professor? If you cared about better professor, Atul Alexander's subject or Sandeepa Bhat's subject wouldn't get scrapped. Same with Vaneeta Patnaik and Sanjay Kumar. You prefer taking subjects offered by JRF and guest faculty and not senior professors

Debarment takes place for every student who fails to attend 75% of the classes (66% in case you have exemptions like medical etc which is very difficult to get). This is not all, failing to meet the attendance requirements in two subjects will lead to a year's loss even if you pass all the other subjects. The attendance requirement can be explained through this quote: "Failing in a subject is better than failing to meet the attendance requirement cuz if you fail a subject, you can write the repeats and get away but if you fail to meet the attendance requirement, you are surely carrying the subject and failing to meet the attendance requirement in two subjects leads to year loss."

If a student has been sick throughout the semester and could not attend most of the classes, then logic says that their learning remains incomplete and they should sit for those classes once again after they feel better next year, before they are certified to have passed that course.

It is certainly not a bank issue, since multiple notices have been sent and the defaulters just did not do anything about it. The university has always allowed in the past every student facing genuine financial problems some kind of relief, once they have applied for that. However, that is a moot point anyway, since all the defaulters have still been allowed to sit for all exams.

Right, fee defaulters were indeed excused. Even students with less attendance were helped. It was only some brats who never showed up for classes at all that got debarred. These people have been contributing to bring the University down to shambles by doing nothing except intoxications in the hostel, then using contacts to seek internships in big law firms and without any basic knowledge of the law, bringing the name of NUJS down in front of the legal fraternity.

What peers? One person from the SJA itself is debarred, believed to be a very good friend of both the ▮▮▮ and the ▮▮▮? Just because you neither attended classes nor worked for the university to claim some compensatory attendance, does not mean those who got that attendance got it in an illegitimate manner. Check your facts before washing your dirty linen in public.

the SJA has been supremely dismissive of all students' concerns. The VC has also dismissed genuine exemptions of students who have been sick(because of the horrible infrastructure; no ac in the library since a year, no clean water, and extremely unhygienic conditions), and those who represented the uni in several competitions throughout the year.

There is also no genuineness in those who haven't gotten debarred. 4th-year boys club members who smoke bongs with the President got free attendance handed out to them for no reason. The AR (definitely the worst set of people wrt competency and efficiency) did not update attendances till 12 hours before the exam.

The real issue is the lack of a solid student body response because of the lackadaisical approach of the SJA, conceding to every issue. They have cooperated with the NAAC nonsense instead of raising legitimate concerns. If the concern is 'academic rigour' they should hire better professors, and ensure those who already exist aren't overburdened with NAAC work instead of research opportunities. The same VC who was so cooperative during Prashant Shukla's tenure cannot possibly be this stringent in this reign.

The arguments about students partying away is not valid at all. The SJA will keep blowing their on horn whilst sitting on their asses and doing nothing.

As a student from SLCU, Blore who have 85% mandatory attendance, pls stop crying. Having 50% attendance requirement is more than enough to focus on firm internships and extra curriculars. Idk how centres of legal education impose both higher and lower minimum attendance requirements than the Bar Council of India's minimum requirement which is only 70%

With the recent debarments, the VC has given us renewed hopes in college and its future. Not debarring students last semester was a big mistake, because entitled students of this college deserve no leniency. These students, who are just here to waste their parents' money, have been taught a lesson for good. I hope atleast some of them start going to classes next semester, and take academics seriously. With the new SJA taking over, I am hopeful that affirmative action will be taken towards improving the state of academics in the college. Lax attitute must pave the way for academic rigour, both at the level of students and professors. The modus operandi for claiming extra attendances from guest lectuees must also be streamlined so that this tribe of entitled students, have no option but to be present in classes.

SJA has always taken stance for students of NUJS,M. I have never seen an SJA who has put in this much effort as this one. The OP who might have just chilled their way through the party sem, would never understand the amount of effort that this SJA puts in all day 24x7 or like how many sleepless nights they have spent just to cater student’s demands.

You are going to be the lawyers, and you are supposed to know the law. The law is 70% attendance otherwise Debarement. This SJA pulled it down to 65% the least it can go as per Acad Regs.

A lil advice: May be next sem, get your shit together, stop fking around and put your ass to some classes. Don’t act like a privileged brat even though you know you are.

students from only the english speaking elite groups have been debarred across batches, because they were busy partying throughout the semester, not caring about going to classes. sja has put all their efforts in saving all the students w genuine issues. maintaining 65% attendancce in nujs requires minimal amount of efforts because some profs are v lenient in providing attendances. most of the students who have been debarred want the attendance criteria to be waived off, like the pandemic years, which is so nonsensical. Top SJA members, have handed out free attendances to peers by adding names to lists that provide for compensatory attendances. The reality is that connections and proximity to the SJA is the sole reason multiple people were saved from debarment. And then they talk about the "ACADEMIC RIGOUR" of college fading away.

Maybe the students should have been more student like. Imaging having such poor attendance that you are debarred from examinations, and then having the shamelessness to write about how unfair it is. Try attending your classes sincerely and you won't face such things.

As per the fee defaulters, i belive they should be excused. Fee delays are never intentional, often times it's an issue from the bank side with no fault of the student. Them being punished for something that's out of their sphere of influence is unjust.

This is mostly fake news.

Reality:

1. No student in the defaulter list was prevented from giving the exam. This is despite the fact that multiple notices and reminders had been sent to clear due payments throughout the semester. A stupendous 40% students have not paid their full fees for the semester.

2. As for attendance, the less said the better. Most students did not attend any or very few classes throughout the semester despite the teachers having issued multiple warning about the consequences. They thought that like the pandemic years, attendance isn't really necessary. Because of this attitude, most of them also have got very little knowledge about the subjects that they are supposed to have studied, but that's a separate argument. While the place has got its share of bad teachers, it is no secret that even the good teachers have become supremely disappointed by the student attitude over the last couple of years and have reduced their efforts in class. Even lectures conducted by alumni, industry professionals and experts don't get to see almost any student participation. It is as if students dared the admin to do something about it and are now crying rivers when it has actually been done.

3. The debarment list was released late because the university actually allowed teachers to conduct extra classes even 2 days before the exam just to give extra attendances so that borderline students can make it. Otherwise, more than 50% of every batch would have been debarred from giving any exam. It is comical how this move, solely meant for student benefit, is now being cited as high handed by students who have attended 10% of classes throughout the sem, didn't pay fees and are still claiming to be the oppressed.

NUJS has debarred over 150 students from taking exams due to attendance shortage and threatened to do the same for students with unpaid fees. All of this on the night before the exam. And the ▮▮▮ of SJA has been abusive to juniors seeking genuine exemptions, violating their right to a respectful learning environment.

A second year student: .....It has also been brought to notice that at the previous Student Council meeting concerns were raised as to the “academic rigour of the college dropping” and the need to strictly enforce the attendance requirements and debar students to set an example. The sja has previously pushed the attendance requirement down to 50% and it is much needed this semester. Please clear the air on this.

A third year student: Why is no one bringing up the fact that the DEBARMENT LIST was released 12 hours before the first exam? If 'academic rigour' is the concern here, why didn't the admin rigorously pursue this sooner
A fifth year student: It is extremely irresponsible of the Admin to release the debarment notice at the eleventh hour, quite literally. To make matters worse, not only is the SJA not rallying hard enough to resolve this issue but also, we’re being no information whatsoever as to whether or not we’ll even be allowed to appear for tomorrow’s exam. This is extremely anxiety inducing and while nothing can be put past the Admin, the SJA is supposed to be in our corner and keep us in the loop so we would really appreciate if the SJA stepped up a little atp.

Another third year student: I understand that multiple students have not paid fees for semesters, but sometimes the default is due to reasons beyond our control. Banks do not process loans on time despite submitting documents. Moreover, the notice that students won't be allowed to write exams came on 8th April, i.e. Saturday, which was holiday. Some students haven't got even a week to communicate to bank authorities.I request the student body to help us and atleast not prevent us to write exams, especially without adequate notice.

Of late, I personally feel, college has become insensitive with directions like restraining from mess food, communicating strict enforcement of attendance requirements at last moment and now non allowance from writing exams despite genuine requests and not adequate notice.
