Below message from a well placed source from NLSIU, whose name I am redacting (although many will already have seen this message because it circulated within WhatsApp alumni groups of NLSIU).
"Yes, I can confirm what [redacted] said is true. The government has received representations from various quarters on the entry of foreign law firms. A proposal has been made to debar foreign law firms to recruit NLU students until 2040, in order to maintain a level playing field vis-a-vis domestic law firms. The proposal is likely to be passed. My own view is that this rule will not affect foreign law firms too much, as the main hiring will be at the partner and SA level. The NLU student hiring is only at the fresh associate level. Moreover, students from Jindal, DU etc can be eligible. Nevertheless, NLU recruitments will be hit and one must question whether it is fair to deprive NLU students of the opportunity to work in an international law firm."
