Million dollar question: NLU alum like Sudhir or same old TLC people?
The criterion is
1. 10 years experience as Professor of Law in a university system or a distinguished jurist not below the rank of a District Judge or an Administrator not below the rank of Secretary to Government of India. 2. Not above the age of 70 years. Thus, it could theoretically be one of the NSLIU alumni who are HC judges or profs abroad.
Good chance, as she can then have a full 5 Year term instead of a short 2.5 Year term as the upper age limit for CNLU VC is 75 Years or a 5 Year Term, whichever is earlier, unlike NLIU which has 70.
But I also think that the appointment is going to be a political one as the Search committee is filled with bureaucrats and such appointments in places like Bihar happen after a hefty bribe.
Who said that in search committee of vc of cnlu there are only bureaucrats do read cnlu act and go t the website of cnlu for search committee don't make biases for your own sake. judgemental aff
The district judge clause is alarming. Imagine a retired district judge with political connections becomes VC of NLIU. The situation of NLIU has anyway deteriorated beyond repairs. Students prefer GNLU and NLU jodhpur now over NLIU.
Exactly. It should NEVER be a retired district judge. I hope this is not the state government's plan and that the students will actively protest such a move.
The Prejudice for Judges from District Judiciary in this thread is quite jarring lmao, compared to some Secretaries and Professors who have probably never stepped foot in the courtroom premises and have an actual view of the justice system from the inside are somehow superior to the judges who need to have a 7 Year litigation experience and then handling a court for at least 25 Years.
Also, the assumption that only a District Judge can be appointed with political connections and not a secretary to the govt of India and a Professor is quite bizarre lol.
If a District Judge has political connections, wouldn't he prefer to get appointed as a Judicial Member in some tribunal or as an Arbitrator if he could not get elevated to the H.C.??
Why would anyone like to come to a remote and desolate place like NLIU, with is on a decline and marred with various scandals? (Fake Degree, Socio Prof Harassment to name a few)
NLIU mostly had terrible VCs. SSS unforgettable. The 2nd oldest NLU of India is not genuinely in top 7 in the country. NLS, Nalsar, NLU Delhi, NUJS, NLU Jodhpur, GNLU and Jindal - all preferred over NLIU Bhopal now. Won't be surprised if some students prefer GLC, MNLU Mumbai, RGNUL and RMLNLU over it.
I would have said Faizan Mustafa. but he will perhaps go to a non-BJP state (like Rajasthan or WB) and then take a Rajya Sabha ticket after his tenure.
For NLIU we could have Shashikala Guprur from Symbi.

She can't extend her term as the NLUJ act was amended in 2022 to include a 2 term limit on VCs tenure.
Also, highly unlikely that Faizan Mustafa will apply for the same.
