There has been a meteoric rise in students falling sick in the past couple of days at National Law University, ▮▮▮. Many students are fainting and having low blood pressure episodes. So many NLU-▮▮▮ students are filling up the beds at AIIMS ▮▮▮ that it's difficult to count. There is hardly anyone attending classes because they are either sick themselves or looking after their friends at the hospital. The administration is not giving two hoots about the students and are making insensitive remarks to top it off. They are not arranging any thing for the convenience of students falling sick and are expecting us to keep meeting the attendance norms. The AIIMS staff has also been telling us to request the NLU ▮▮▮ admin to put in place quarantine protocols, but all pleas have fallen on deaf ears. We don't know what to do but hope that we are lucky enough to get the ambulance on time if and when required and then get a bed at AIIMS.
Is this true? What kind of virus is it? And what do you mean by "it's difficult to count"? Approximately / at least how many should be possible to confirm? Marking this as contested for now and redacting the name of the law school until some more details can be provided, so as not to create a panic.
@Mod: You may have redacted the university name in the post, but on the homepage as part of the heading, it is still showing.
We're not sure what sort of virus it is because students aren't getting tested for COVID, but the AIIMS docs on emergency ward rounds are telling us that it's a viral outbreak. It's difficult to count because the administration is not keeping a tab and then not all students are being admitted. AIIMS staff says their emergency ward is facing mismanagement because of the influx of NLU Nagpur students. While I cannot offer you any figure on how many students are affected, the mess managers say that khichdi is being served for around 200 sick students in the campus hostels, not counting those who have left for their homes or are at the hospital. There is another hostel premises as well nearby AIIMS.
Yes, it's true. There is no knowledge of the type of virus though. The students are getting ill since they came back from December break. However, the number is peaking since past two days leading the student community acknowledge the fact that something wrong is going on. Just one day back, a student got diagnosed with pneumonia while RTPCR test was also conducted (result of which is unknown). The NLU Nagpur administration had blamed the student community and placed the cause of this outbreak on students arguing that they partying in the cultural fest till late night, and hence the outbreak. However, the fact that students were getting sick right from the starting of this month clearly shows the issue is with the hygiene, food and sanitation.

Since the students were shifted to new campus in July 2022, there have been regular complaints about the quality of water being provided for drinking and daily use. While the quality improved a bit in mid term of the previous semester, it again has gotten deteriorated this January. The quality of water can be gauged by the fact that the soap doesn't wash off properly with the water when it is applied on body.
As far as we know it is some kind of lung infection. But certain doctors at AIIMS says that it is some kind of covid variant which is just bare diagnosis without any test. The general symptoms exhibited are high fever, shivering, body ache, vomits in some cases. All we want is college be shut for few days so as to break the cycle as it is highly contagious and has been spreading rapidly.
I can vouch for the above post as I am a victim too. The administration is trying its best to not give any attention to this spread of virus. They are putting all the blame on the students and leaving them alone to survive.
Navbharat Times Nagpur has reported the incident today. Although, the report is a concocted version of the incident, implying that the University is making efforts to handle the incident. However, the University had only declared last evening that it is allowing students to go home and will be providing attendance related concessions.
