What definitely helps: network, network, network. Start at the bottom by shadowing / interning with non-seniors in the Supreme Court, and see if you can find contacts while there and work your way into senior's offices or find good leads to email or apply to.
Best advice: join politics and then get attached to a chamber of a politician-cum-Senior Advocate. Just as NLU-ites and Jindal-ties dominate campus placements, tier 3 colleges and TLCs dominate "political placements".

Depending on your ideology, I suggest you join either the BJP Legal Cell or Congress Legal Cell.
DMK has the biggest legal cell in India.

Samajwadi Party also has a decent legal cell.
I'm guessing AAP will have young lawyers who may be smart but not A-list names.
Almost impossible for male, first generation, underprivileged candidates.
Why do u want to join a Sr adv? To perform free labour? Just work at a company or a firm instead.
