Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
The good thing(or bad idk) is that I had enrolled myself into USLLS, Delhi which, I was told is a decent law school. ( I am a first year student there and my first semester is about to end soon)
Now, As I have no legal pedigree and no connections remotely connected to this profession, Do I continue with this " not so good" or "decent" law school and navigate my way through it? Or I drop out, leave this profession, I admire, altogether and do some conventional and banal degree like BBA or BCOM? I am literally lost and have no idea what I should do next, I need some real advice, even brutal if it has to be. Would really appreciate if you guys revert back and offer some help.
a) Subjects/Academics- The whole curriculum aligned with my interests of subjects.
b) Lucrative- The earning potential in law is high but it again depends on various factors.
c)Power- Law as a degree is enough to make one equipped to be less prone to exploitation by other authorities and also help assert oneself in an appropriate manner in society.
Now that, If I continue with law in this "not so good" university, The 1st reason flies right out of the window as this university isn't big on academics.
Campus placements are almost non existent and so this doesn't satiate the appetite for a good pay check which was the 2nd point.
The 3rd point, however, can be accomplished provided that I actually fulfil the requisite.
However, coming back to the 2nd point, there are accounts and anecdotes of various people suggesting that one can still earn a good amount if they work hard despite of the law school and this leaves me in a grey area. Hence, This query on this forum.
I don't want to leave law as a profession but I don't know if thats the right choice provided that I am not in a good university neither I have any prior legal pedigree. And this leaves me in this conundrum, To do law or to not do law?
Academics: Are you actually learning anything in your studies and do you find it interesting? If so, then continue your degree and soak up as much information as you can, and see if you can improve your grades.
c) Power: start interning and hustling as hard as you can now, find as many internships in as many areas as possible, spend time in courts, in law firms, etc. In other words, really make your time count: see if you can achieve the 'power' part of your ambitions already, by really getting to know how law works in practice.
b) Lucrative: Then, when you graduate, see if you've got a lucrative job despite your alma mater. If you've done a) and c), you should. But if it's a job you don't like, it's probably not too late to look into doing a BCOM or BBA, and you'll also have the advantage of all the legal knowledge and power.
