We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

- Dire situation in China
- Cases spiking in Japan
- Uptick in many other countries
Letโs not repeat the same mistake as last year. We need a soft lockdown in India immediately.
- All international flights closed except air bubble flights
- Mask up or pay Rs 1,000 fine
- Roll out 4th booster
- All schools, colleges, courts, offices to work remotely
All we're suggesting, contrary to the media response: don't start panicking just yet in India.
While it's theoretically possible the virus came from a lab and China undoubtedly mismanaged the early days of the pandemic (and the current wave also), there is only circumstantial evidence for this theory and no peer reviewed evidence at all.

Also, "very likely" here is still false, unless new evidence comes to light beyond current circumstantial evidence. Here's a more recent scientific study of the virus origins and genomic make-up: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abp8337 This concludes:
Quote:
> The precise events surrounding virus spillover will always be clouded, but all of the circumstantial evidence so far points to more than one zoonotic event occurring in Huanan market in Wuhan, China, likely during NovemberโDecember 2019.
Remember that this virus is very likely a lab-engineered virus so we can't say if it will mutate into a lethal new variant.
But unless the virus mutates in China into a nastier variant, the pure number infected in China shouldn't make much difference to India, where the virus is practically endemic already anyway and travel restrictions from China are still strict.
If this prediction about China indeed comes true, India will obviously be affected because the virus will spread. Surely law firms and law schools can again operate remotely and it won't hurt the economy much?
