Hey, I carry a 17 inch gaming laptop with a gigantic brick of a charger. I only have to carry it from my car to the office. I also need to pull out the huge charger and long wires. It got boring and i started using my phone charger instead, that was convenient for a while but now I just use my tab which is just too easy. If you can't have two laptops then a gaming laptop is the only way to go, but since you travel extensively in the metro, something smaller would be more convenient.

But, gamers ftw and do what you gotta do.

Not sure if it’s directly relevant but I’m a law student and I too use my Victus for all the assignments/academic work, along with the internship work. On weekends and at nights, I use it for heavy gaming like Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Warzone etc. Been doing it for more than an year and no issues till now. My last HP gaming laptop lasted for 6-7 years with A LOT of abuse, so you shouldn’t be worried. You’ll probably have to get a battery replacement in a few years tho.

My only major concern was while interning virtually with a tier-1 law firm, and the HR told me that the IT Dept would install some corporate monitoring software to alter/delete the firm’s confidential data that could possibly be stored on my device. They also wanted to block the ports and USBs for the course of the internship (which is a big issue coz I won’t be able to connect my guitar or audio interface to my laptop).

Considering my past experiences, I was highly sceptical about their IT Dept’s expertise. I was afraid they would inadvertently fuck things up, or ruin my gaming experience (via the background activity/trackers etc.) for the month. So I did some research and found a way to circumvent their entire scheme. Not sure if my actions were completely legal, considering the documents that I had signed while joining. (For the record- I have manually deleted all the “data” I acquired during the internship).

To conclude, your laptop will be fine. Just make sure you don’t allow the firm’s “techies” to touch your personal laptop.

Surprised your firm lets you work with a personal laptop. If that is actually the case, then all I could say is that make sure there are no pirated games (risk of virus) and to keep all your work backed up on the cloud.

Also travelling on a local with a 16inch laptop........ I personally don't see how you derive any pleasure from that. I'd always go for an Ultrabook / MacBook Air. Once you use it you will definitely see the difference.

I have an Omen 16. Its new - price of less than Rs.150K. I use it 12 hrs * 5 days at office. And 10 hrs gaming on the weekends. Its a new laptop and is okay.

But is it risky for my laptop if i use it for office work and gaming. Are there anything else i should keep in mind while gaming with a laptop i use for office work? Will it get destroyed in over use?

Also - the laptop is my one month full salary. How many years would my omen laptop last with this use? I also travel extensively on Mumbai suburban.
