So basically promising what Sudhir is doing at NLSIU. But will he actually do it in practice? Will he stock the faculty with alumni who have studied abroad, like Sudhir has done? Will he start a 3 year LLB course, like Sudhir is doing? Will he start new dual degree programmes and student exchange programmes?

It takes work and effort to do all the things Sudhir is doing. It takes a long term reputation of being an honest scholar. That’s what will encourage other scholars to go and work at nalsar. It takes imagination to think about research avenues the university could take up. It takes the ability to delegate and actually be comfortable with multiple centres of power and autonomy for individual professors to build the culture they’re trying to build at nls.

SKD Rao is a status quo ist at best, you shouldn’t expect fireworks.
