There are many examples of Indian universities having VCs who were not domain experts. In a multi-disciplinary university, do you get multiple VCs then? BCI or UGC does not have any such requirement either. VC is not a faculty member, he has to be a good academic and administrator to do his job, although being a domain expert helps.
