Agree that it's unethical, but IIT KGP is governed by AICTE and also has Institution of Eminence Status, which allows them to get away with all this. However, I think the appointment should be challenged in court and pressure applied.
IOE status has got nothing to do with this. How people comment so randomly without having the slightest of idea about something beggars belief! There are many examples of Indian universities having VCs who were not domain experts. In a multi-disciplinary university, do you get multiple VCs then? BCI or UGC does not have any such requirement either. VC is not a faculty member, he has to be a good academic and administrator to do his job, although being a domain expert helps.
STEM professionals can teach law. This is IIT. Much intelligent than all NLUs collectively.
Some of the people who teach at IIT KGP's law school would not get entry into the better NLUs, so that assumption of yours is completely baseless, assuming that it was not sarcasm.
Because their law department is still miles behind in terms of prestige compared to decent NLUs. One of the reasons being the lack of excellent faculty.
Like NLUs have developed rockets and arranging journeys to the Mars and Venus. Man, nobody cares about NLUs as soon as you leave the city in which NLU is situated. Get out of day dreaming.
NLUs have done all that law schools in India have done and some that the latter didn't do. IIT KGP's law school cannot claim that yet.
The benchmark you're testing it against is incorrect to begin with.
Is the prof in question qualified as a patent agent as well? If yes that’s fine.
