Obviously, I do not mean to say race isn't one or wouldn't have been in his formative years. However, by the times 90s rolled in and he was an adolescent or in the 00s when he went through University, his Winchester schooling and Oxford PPE would have kept him comfortably 'afloat.' And, then he went on to marry Narayan Murthy's daughter for goodness sake. Let's not make him the poster boy of the marginalized!

He worked hard and attended one of the best schools in the UK on a scholarship. Then went to Oxford and Stanford.
He was given a ticket by the Conservative party in a white-dominated constituency.
During his political campaign, not once did he invoke his race or religion.
He was made a minister by conservative PMs David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. Boris Johnson's cabinet had three other Hindus in important positions (Priti Patel, Alok Sharma and Shailesh Vara), plus a Goan Christian who practises Buddhism (Suella Braverman), plus a Pakistani-origin Muslim (Savid Javid).
No Labour government EVER gave such important ministries to any minority politician. Please look up the cabinets of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
So the obvious question to ask is whether meritocracy is better for minorities and than left-wing identity politics and so-called "affirmative action", where people are given positions merely on the basis of race and religion. The woke US Democrats is a prime example of the latter (Kamala Harris being a lousy VP) but so are politicians in India. SC/ST/OBC reservation everywhere and expanding OBC reservation to include Jats, Gujjars, Marathas, Christians, Muslims, what not.
But has left-wing identity politics and affirmative action done much to improve the state of minorities and disadvantaged sections? A BIG NO. So why can't we follow meritocracy in India, just like the British conservatives?
