Which rock have you been hiding under? By most yardsticks, as an activist campaign / meme, MeToo was extraordinarily successful, since even you seem to be aware that there is such a thing as #MeToo. You must agree that MeToo resulted in prison sentences (like Harvey Weinstein), a huge number of firings from jobs and public positions as entertainers and politicians, and an incremental improvement in awareness and implementation of POSH laws, and arguably a little bit less public mysoginy online (or at least, when you are making such comments online, you know you might risk a backlash and also potentially lose your job, which would have been nearly unimaginable 20 years ago, say)?

Sure, there is arguably a little more MeToo / Wokeness fatigue now, but none of these things are expected to last forever.

Don't forget Kevin Spacey. Also others who made quiet/negotiated exits. Also the rise of intimacy coordinators. The "toning down" of "things" that were par for course in GoT and clones/competitors (then in pipeline and now emerging). So many other things and even the demand for a #TheyToo.

And was apparently booted out from IIT KGP Law because of SH complaints there as well. An inquiry took place under some retired SC judge. Prof KIV is an old ally of NKC at least since IIT-KGP Law days.

Back then NKC was a full-timer in CU Law. "Pariborton" (change) was in the air and given NKC's own and family's (immediate and extended) deep Red connections, he wanted to exit CU without disturbing his pension benefits. It was still some years away from retirement and NKC wanted to avoid "panga" from the Greens.

So NL Mitra who was then heavily involved (Cong/Left connections) in IIT-KGP Law and subsequently KIIT tried to bring in NKC at KGP Law on lien. But NKC faced trouble from "trouble makers" in CU and KGP. So he took a visiting position at KGP Law hoping that the "opposition" would eventually melt.

Unfortunately that did not happen and NKC had to make the "hard choice" of making a permanent exit from CU Law and was installed by NLM at KIIT Law when FM moved to NLUO. Thereafter NKC made repeated attempts to position himself in NUJS and later other NLUs. All remained unsuccessful (NLU Ranchi, Mumbai and Lucknow declined too) until a powerful section of TMC and "friendlies" in HC Bar and Bench backed him. The LM was personally opposed but orders came from the top.

This isn't the first time that KIV attempted to position himself in NUJS. Check EC/AC records. Am earlier attempt via PIB was swatted away by the EC.

Now anything goes. Began with PIB. Accelerated by Lord Taluk. And completed by NKC.

Infrastructure problems, no new hostels, questionable appointments, restarting of shady online courses, VC spending 19L on his own car and completely ignoring any student related issues.

Does the student have even an ounce of self-respect left in them? Students in HNLU are on protest (against VC Vivekanandan - who was interestingly the alternative candidate for VC in case of NUJS). What has happened to the SJA?!

To answer your question: yes. The students have been paying 150% of the operating expenses as fees (as per URC Report). The additional 50% raised (since 2012) has formed a huge corpus by now.

As for distance programs, they account for less 1/15th of NUJS revenues (as per Annual Report). 12/15th comes from student fees of degree programs. Most the profits from distance programs (50-80% depending on courses) used to go to the private agency (as per EC minutes). No doubt the EC shut them down.

The corpus is not huge enough to fund new hostels or expansion of infra. It is enough to properly maintain what exists though. As for the courses, I'm referring to the recent initiatives to start new courses without profit sharing. Regarding the old ones, the university was getting 40% for doing nothing at all, not even marketing. Any rational person would have called it a good deal. Compare the number of students that those courses used to attract with those that stand alone university-run courses do and you will see the difference. I'm not commenting on the quality of the courses of course.

The man was fired form Pune Univ for [allegedly] harassing a STUDENT, not even a colleague. That makes it [allegedly] 10 times worse!!Shame on the admin for making such an appointment and shame on the students for condoning it! Such a thing would never have happened at NLSIU or NALSAR.

wait why is harassing students worse than hiring fellow faculty members? are womens bodies worth less when they age? are all working women just to expect harassment? Are we saying power relations do not exist between senior and junior faculty members?

Why do students find it so easy to dehumanise faculty man. its freaking depressing.

Don't be a troll. You know very well that the point being made is that harassing students is worse as they are younger (some barely adults) and have less experience and maturity in dealing with harassment. Plus, KIV was HOD at Pune at the time and had the power to make or break carer of students.

Don't try to distract and stick to the point about how KIV can be allowed to teach.

I’m not trolling in the least bit. As a young woman working in Indian academia and a nujs alumna , I’m astounded how often students dehumanise us. Put their interests ahead of everyone else’s. You’re either a feminist for everyone or you’re a feminist for no one. Won’t do to pick and choose. Dyou know how often me and my colleagues have found harassing behaviour from students ? From other fellow faculty? Do you think the experience of harassment gets any better because you’ve aged a few years? Do you think when senior profs harass us they don’t have control over our careers? What are you even saying? Why is this generation so self absorbed!

This is why none of your concerns get sympathy from others- cause you don’t demonstrate sympathy for anyone except the image in the mirror. This is what breaks movements.

You should be able to have more complicated multiple discussions at the same time. If you want to boil everything down to your specific complaint- you’re just never going to learn how to be in a society.

The committee has been set up to remove responsibility from the shoulder of SJA. No one even stood for ny of the position the sja had to offer in the 'committee', the pres and vice pres were best friends with a person who had given false testimony in a sexual harassment case. SO one can understand how reliable the sja is - yes it's true.

This may seem strange, but other than the solitary ToI piece, I didn't come across a single mention of this incident in public media. Back in 2003, it should have been a big deal, because it would have quite an exception in India to get people actually convicted on such charges. Apparently, the PU official records do not contain any reference to the 'removal' at all, just a voluntary resignation.
