In a law firm - you have to work atleast 10 to 14 hrs daily and the moment you are not good clients and your firm will dump you in the dustbin. You are nobody outside your firm. But salaries can be really high. You can even make partner.
BDO Officer - your life is relaxed. Even if you are a lazy mediocre good for nothing piece of shit, you can survive. If you are a workaholic, good for the State and people. You won't be fired, unless you take dumb bribes.
If you want to live a relaxed life with average salary. BDO Officer job is amazing. BDO job is just like that of a magistrate. It's not competetive. For government jobs, getting in is the difficult part. BDO job also has its own cons.
Even my job (Judge, subordinate Judiciary) sucks. But it's respected by the common man and everyone else you come across. BDO Officer or any government job commands respect in India than any it company or law firm job.
If you want a life of luxury but with insane work hours. Be there at Khaitan.
Certainly go for it, BDO is a very prestigious post especially if you live in North India, the avenues of promotions are also very good you will be elevated to All India Services after a decade of Service.
No one gives two sh*ts about Corporate Lawyers outside the Corp Law circle.
The prestige and connections which you recieve after joining the service is unparalleled.
You can always quit if you don't like it.
There is no ready answer to your question. It will all depend on what you like and what your preferences are. BDOs can transform their blocks, they do not have too many executive powers (compared to SDO or DM) but they do have full powers of implementing the policies of the state and centre. It will be rigorous, exhausting and challenging, however if you are public minded, and a bit idealist (not a lot, or it will be difficult to survive as a lower babu) this job will be fine for you.
