The Commonwealth Games is only a small subset of membership of the Commonwealth. Any talking shop that promotes trade and bilateral/ multilateral relations between nations is a good thing. We can't wish away 2 centuries of British colonialism, so it makes sense to strategically exploit whatever platform it gives us.
Everyone knows this. The UK knows this. Australia knows this. India knows this. Ghana and Namibia know this. No one is foolish enough to say "colonialism bad, we are leaving to prove a point". That's not how grown ups do diplomacy.
As for sports, the exposure our sportspeople get is so pathetic that this is a great way to motivate them, and provide more experience and publicity to them. We gain nothing except some nationalistic flag waving, by boycotting.
All that her article has done is rehash some ad hominem arguments, and put together a patchwork of weak points. She could have done much better. Starting with, by not writing this.

- Many sports there are not Olympic sports, e.g. women's cricket, squash, lawn bowls etc. Why deny athletes in this fields a chance to win medals and set records?
- Many athletes with Olympic medal potential can be recognised at the CWG. Existing medalists get a chance to maintain their form, e.g. Mirabai Chanu.
It's time liberals stop cancelling every damn thing. Going by this logic, once can say cancel cricket (colonial sport), cancel golf and F1 (too wealthy), cancel MMA (toxic masculinity), cancel tennis (too white), cancel beach volleyball (objectification of women in bikinis) etc.
She may be a good lawyer but her words are not the gospel of truth. She works primarily for herself. It is very easy to give gyaan while convenient, e.g., benefitting from the Rhodes scholarship. When the point itself is colonialism, it is quite ironical, no? That is like making crores of Adani shares, voting against environmental concerns and then writing op-eds on how environmentalism is important for corporations. What a load of BS.
