I am an Associate (A0) at a small Mumbai based firm. I am working with their Corporate, Cap Marks department currently. Works is okay/ seems to be decent.
Now, my predicament is that I am interested in another area. For example, I would want to try Labour Law or Banking & Finance or Funds.
How can I take up work from that area, is it okay for me to ask my Managing Partner about this and see what he says?
I'm okay with where I am currently, but would want to explore those other practice areas as well.
Please let me know what you guys think/ how I should go about it.
Would appreciate any views or answers from people who have successfully done this as well.

first,get to know what actually happens in that area of practice ,get complete knowledge of what associates do in that area of practice ,are you capable enough to cope up in that area,then,go and ask your senior and also approach associates/sa/pa of b&f or funds team and inform them,in case of any vacancy to inform you.
but make it very sure ,you should be having complete knowledge of that area of practice,there wont be second chance again.
