You should be mindful that you are going to give up on male privilege.

Courts are more difficult to navigate as a woman and even more difficult as a trans woman.

This isn't said to dissuade you, but to be prepared for the challenges you are going to face ahead.

If that is the choice you have made, then you have nothing but my support. I'm openly queer at the organsiation where I work. It's generally known in parts the Bombay bar and sometimes clients when they find my social media are taken by surprise. Registry is an absolute pain though. They keep "correcting" my appearance slips from Mx to Mr. so I am yet to be called by my correct pronoun in an order.

Can I fix this? Yes of course. It would involve writing to the Chief and asking for a practice note. But sometimes I wonder, why I have to make this effort at all when others don't? I guess that's where you will end up in this system (sorry to sound morose). You'll end up "exhausted". Exhausted at dealing with bigots at work, in court and clients.

You may also be humiliated by a judge. Please note, they are also bigoted sometimes and they will dole out humiliation without any retribution from any authority. Seniors at the Bar will also try to humiliate you. I still remember once before the Small Causes when the judge kept referring to me as "Mr. Counsel". I lost it and said please just call me counsel, I don't use that pronoun. After understanding what I said he had the audacity to say "But Mr. Counsel, you are not a Hijra". In open court.

Humour will be your best defence mechanism (this is mine). Find a way to make light of things. Joke when people are bigoted. It puts them at ease. They may not accept you, but the ease will allow them to deal with you.

It's exhausting being an LGBT at the Bar. But it is exhausting being an LGBT anywhere in today's society I guess. So if you're ready to be constantly disappointed and exhausted while you follow your passion. Then I give you my full support. If you're able to change things for the rest of us here, then I wish you the best of success.

While the road is hard, it is one worth travelling.

Also make sure you get the necessary certificates under the Transgender Act. They will demand proof of your gender identity. They are capable of such rubbish and you should be prepared with the documentation.

I looked but it seems they all transitioned their careers shortly after transitioning their genders. They all seem to be in either a desk role/ an orator of some form or the 2 publicly known examples, being a woman from Odisha and another from Karnataka, neither of whom seem to have any way to contact them available online.
I'm looking for support groups right now, maybe that could alleviate some of my concerns and provide the community I seek. Let's see

Though it might be better in a more desky job, I think if I start changing things about my professional life depending upon the reactions of others, I wouldn't stop at just shifting to those roles.
I chose lit after a lot of careful thought and I live by it, so the question is really more morbid curiosity about where this path will inevitably lead, than what alternatives I might have to it.

Get ready for a very difficult road ahead. While I hope you succeed you have to realise, that you're going to have to live with bigotry day in and day out. Even if you find a supportive organisation, finding supportive clients will be difficult. I suggest you actively consider a career in legal academics or the judiciary. It's far less bigoted.

make the gender jungle issue only part of your idenity- not your being and thought and worry point and it wil be ok

The only thing you need rn is your own confidence in your decision and way forward.

The people at your organisation seem supportive, which is great. Don't worry about everyone accepting and supporting you. That's something very rare irrespective of your transition.

There will always be haters. At the end its your capability which will show who and what you are, so just work hard and focus on that.

I was recently diagnosed with gender dysphoria and tho my friends, and partner are very supportive and accepting of the possibility of my transitioning and living as a woman, i am very scared of how that would affect my budding career in commercial lit in delhi.
I've just started working, haven't even got my enrolment yet and already it feels as though my options are to either live with this confusion the rest of my time or live openly and accept my fate.

Are there any trans people here or anyone who can offer words of advice for how i should go about this and if i should come out to people at all
