- All NLU student bodies drafted a joint petition and coined the hashtag #NationaliseNLUS
- NUJS students held a symbolic protest on campus with a #Nationalise NLUS banner
- During anti-VC protests at NLIU, HNLU, CNLU, RGNUL and HPNLU this hashtag was used
- Maneka Gandhi and some other MPs raised the issue in Parliament
- Harvard professor and TMC MP Saugata Bose introduced a private members bill
- Meenakshi Lekhi from the BJP (an NLU parent) also introduced a private members bill
However, since the past 3-4 years this issue has fizzled out and is no longer a priority for student bodies. This is because there is a lot of in-fighting among the present generation of NLU students. Yes, there was Covid but I do not think that is a sufficient reason. The present generation of NLU students is very different from the generation that entered NLUs between 2009-2014 and started the #NationaliseNLUS initiative.
The author is also spot on in saying that tier 1 NLUs don't want nationalisation because they are threatened that tier 2 NLUs will get the same funding as them and be treated at par. I feel this is the REAL reason no NLU nationalisation will happen. NLSIU does not want it. Let's not blame the government.

1. Nationalise the NLUs.
2. Liberalisation in the legal sector and allow the foreign firms.
3. National level judicial exams and stopping of nepo promotions.
4. Promotion of HC and SC judges from lower courts only.
All of these will greatly help the legal sector and law will become a great career option for most people.
