But there's absolutely no chance coming anywhere close to a Delhi/Bombay for law practice since there's no chance of Goa replacing either, as the administrative capital or the financial capital of the country. If the proposed film City at Loliem is a success, Goa may become an entertainment/creative hub, somewhat like a poor man's Vegas/Miami and there may be some increased scope for law in these fields in the future.
It's so nice to see other peeps vouching for a disputes practice in Goa. As 'Guest' I would like to make a few clarifications.
1. The figure of 1-1.5 lakhs is from my own personal experience and I understand it may not be the same across the board. I shouldn't have presumed. Heavy networking with builders in addition to tie ups with a few panchayats ensures a steady source most months.
2. Saturdays are certainly working but most lawyers in my circle do not shut shop at 9 pm unless something is urgent. We prefer heading in earlier in the morning. Ofcourse if you practice at the High Court your hours will vary. All in all I am able to devote a LOT more time to my family as compared to when I was practicing in other jurisdictions.
I'm sure we must've run into each other at some point considering how everyone knows everyone here!
1. Environmental Law is a vibrant practice area here. CRZ Regulations, Forest Matters etc are all busy fields and there seems to be more than enough to go around.
2. Property Law here seems to stretch beyond the usual title disputes+specific performance etc. Zoning + Planning + Building Regulations are all common place.
3. I don't practice much on the criminal side but there's a lot of NDPS work.
4. The Bar here is one of the nicest things. Friendly, accomodating, everyone knows everyone etc.
5. Professional Quality of Life is definitely better. Not everything is URGENT.
I disagree with a few things Guest has said, but that's my personal experience and I'm dont want to run anyone down without hearing more.
1. The figure of 1-1.5 lakhs a month for someone with two years experience sounds unreal, I have about four/five years experience and I make a fraction of that, and I'll go out on a limb and say that I have decent skills as well. I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong!
2. Offices closing at 7:30PM sounds like a dream, and most lawyers I know shit shop only at 9PM or thereabouts. Saturdays are generally working, and the occasional Sunday is not unheard of. Not bragging about overworking or anything, but just stating it as I've seen.

As someone who has been practicing here for a while I feel I'm qualified to answer your query.
1. The number of development projects has seen considerable growth over the last decade so there is a lot of scope if you wish to practice property law.
2. Even otherwise there is a bench of the Bombay High Court here so no dearth of matters.
3. Post Covid a fair increase in family law cases as well. The word divorce is not a taboo here.
4. A lawyer with decent skills can easily pull 1-1.5 lakh per month within the first 2 years of practice. Plus people usually don't pay their juniors peanuts. Can you say the same about a city like Delhi?
5. We don't spend a good 2-3 hours of our day stuck in traffic also breathe fresh air.
6. Offices close at 7 pm here and people spend time with their families. Quality of life means something.
Don't knock it till you try it.
