The word "revert" doesn't mean "to respond" or "to reply". Unfortunately, it is 99% times used incorrectly.
It means to "return to (a previous state, practice, topic, etc.)".
For example, "he reverted to making kombucha with the older SCOBY". But not, "has Rahul reverted to your email?". Or, "please revert in case you have any queries".
When I started working, I thought, oh cool, this sounds like a fancy word I'll use in my emails. I felt smug and professional. I never bothered checking what it actually meant and I used the word incorrectly for years.
But there you have it. You now know what it means and how it is to be used in the future.

Look, I have no issue with someone else using revert or any other word incorrectly. It's not like I make fun of such people. The point of communication is to communicate and, as long as I can understand what the other person is saying, I don't really care.
However, once I realised what "revert" really meant, I couldn't help but cringe at my past smug use of it.
