I studied BA (3 yrs) and llb (3 years) and llb is the worst course I studied. LLB means jobs are available - not enough to live, then what is point of working morning to night???? . Friends who are advocates have even lesser salary.
Native advocate office doesnt even pay 3000. But they have good house, salary and cars. Even clerk gets 15000, but junior gets 3000 in native. Junior cannot get even food money.
1) Gather data on Juniors (PQE-3 Years at least) of both the Seniors (Delhi & Native), who have left the senior to start their own practice or are still with the senior. This will help you get an idea of the skills and contacts that you may acquire at both the places. And Compare.
2) Do you have friends and family in Delhi? If not, then how are you planning to get clients in future? This is something you seriously need to consider. Litigation is a dead end without clients who bring you cases.
3) Are you related/known to the either of the seniors? If yes, then this would be helpful as the Senior would then put in extra effort to make you learn stuff, again helpful in the long run.
4) How good are you financially? Is you family sufficiently earning to provide you with financial assistance for next 5 Years (at least)? Litigation is the least financially viable alternative in law for a first gen lawyer. Finances should never be presumed, plan it in advance. Delhi is expensive af! 10K will not even cover half of your expenses, no matter how minimalist of a person you are.
And Litigation requires pretense (at least in Delhi). If you have money and decent car, things get better and smoother. Some degree of financial wellness/support in mandatory. You CANNOT spend your youth in abject poverty. Delhi is bright, but only for those who have the right contacts. No matter how hopeful you are, getting clients in Delhi is gonna be difficult as you will be spending 12-15 hours at your senior's office. Lastly, if you are from Punjab, Haryana, H.P, UP, Uttarakhand or Rajasthan, you may stand a chance as you may relate to the crowd here. If not, gtfo asap!
Stay over at some friends or relatives for a bit.
Save a lot
Cut on any extra items.
Live a little frugally for a year.
Ride to and fro from office with colleagues.
No online orders.
This was how to manage the situation. On how to improve the situation- Ask your senior if you can take parallel work. Start working extra hours to get those independent assignments.
If your native place is near Delhi, travel there on weekends to get work. Develop relationships and contacts back home.
You don't need to be at the native place during weekdays to do all sort of works. Engage some local counsel who's in a similar position.
That way you'll be easily able to double your pay very soon.
There is no dearth of work anywhere but the dearth of capable lawyers.
Even someone doing a gardening, sweeping or cooking is able to justify his pay for work unlike an in-experienced law graduate who lacks basic set of skills. Blame can always be shifted to law colleges and teachers but at the end of the day a client/ (experienced advocate) cannot be forced to shell out money to help an (in-experienced lawyer).
Believe me an experienced lawyer has never shortage of money due to his skill set.
Rs.10K in New Delhi will not be able to help you grow into a good lawyer. Only slight chances at the most. Try to return back to your own home town.
Before asking for money from others try to think what you can give back to community. Only then you would be able to earn back from community.
You find likeminded people. You can easily find 2bhks for 7-10k in and around Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, IP Extension, Laxmi Nagar area [I am not referring to Apartment complexes. Go for builder flats]. Share it with at least 3 other people. have the simplest food. You will find a lot of people preparing for CS, Judiciary etc. in the region.
Rent - 2k
Food - 2.5k for 3 meals (you will get dabba walas in the area) [or you guys cook amongst yourself].
Tea / Coffee - 300
Travel - 1.5k [Take a DTC Bus pass. you can travel in AC buses too. Don't use metro / auto. Walk / bus.]
Electricity - Thanks to kejriwal, you may not have to pay anything.
Soaps, deodarants, shoe polish, Water, phone bill etc. - 700
Save 3k for emergencies. Don't spend a penny elsewhere. Look for advocates / jobs which will pay higher, and make a switch ASAP. Spend as much time as possible in Court. Start appearing for misc. matters for other lawyers and clients. Read as much as you can. Take tuition classes on weekends. Take classes online if local students are not available.
Use office stationary and office amenities (books, internet etc.) for EVERYTHING.
Lakhs of families live in Delhi for a budget much less than 5k per person. These are decent localities (ones mentioned in Para 1). You will get edible food. If you can, try having lunch at office's expense. Do whatever you can at office's expense.
If your office has sufficient stationary, help your roommates with basic stuff. they will always extend favors and share snacks. Develop yourself. There are endless opportunities in Delhi. You just need to have the patience to ride the hard waves out.

The veracity is that the game of law is rigged at this point. Law is good for people who emanate from immense privilege or are from reputed colleges and I swear to god I am not saying this to exasperate you but it's the bitter truth. Recently, I was reading a thread about self made lawyers and the number is just too diminutive to matter. Law is like acting, untill you emanate from privilege your chances of making it is too bleak.
Additionally, I don't see the point of wasting your youth and working for bare minimum. Even if you become affluent in your 40s or early 50s it is still not worth it because it signifies you gave up on your best years.
