Even in some of the bottom 10 NLUs, some hard working folks do get good placements. Some guys at the newer ones are doing decent enough in their lives, but mind you, that at the bottom 10 NLUs not everyone would get placed and perhaps most of them wouldn't (at least not right away, but then you can always get a year or two of experience and then make the switch to T1 firms). I had interns from NLUJAA and MNLU N who were bloody brilliant at work and made the most out of every opportunity that they got. It might be a lot harder than Top-5/7 NLU folks, but then again its possible and many people make it possible for themselves.
Coming to NIFT, it also costs the same and I don't think the ROI is that great. Placements aren't good and you spend around 12 lakhs for the degree (not including other costs). Not to say that the bottom NLUs offer great placements, but it still might be a better investment given that you can still make the shift to good firms after getting some experience. Then there is the option of Judicial service exams (both lower and higher) and litigation.
But let me warn you, there is no work-life balance in law. All of that so called glamour fades away as soon as you step into the field, moreover chances are that you would come to hate the work that you do.
Don't dive into law if you are unsure about it, have seen people go through a mid law-school crisis and they are stuck because they have invested too much time and money into it. There are not many exit options if you get into a 5 year LL.B. Decide wisely, if fashion design is what interests you then go for nift and if not then NLU, also do consider your financial situation before taking a call.
