I'm equally annoyed with the situation and believe the SJA needs to be held accountable. But ad hominem attacks aren't going to solve anything.
Let's talk about what needs to be done.
You are not in school. Stop treating it like a confession page.
Now while I’m not interested in exhuming the ghost of Voltaire to lecture about free speech, however at the same time, it is pertinent that unnecessarily lionising and absolving the SJA needs to stop. Further, if SJA is so adamant at preventing an ‘outbreak’, albeit of Fake News then the way to go forward is by addressing a GB mail and apprising all the stakeholders about the situation at nujs.
Personally, as an outgoing senior, I’m am quite unsatisfied with the VC and not the SJA per se.
Do seniors and the SJA not deserve to be criticised?
The uni did not even have a proper SOP. They had guidelines for those staying on campus, protocol for when people test positive, etc but a large part of things was left to be decided as and when things develop. Eg, a tie up with a hospital would have been nice when they were calling all the students back mandatorily. Had this omicron wave come 3 weeks later after all students had reached, we would have been left without any support on campus.
They did not even take action when nls nalsar had already suspended reopening and unnecessarily waited for someone to test positive only so that the christmas and new year scenes can continue. Anybody on campus who says otherwise can go back and look at their insta/ snapchat stories to see what they were doing last week.
The rooms had been closed for the past two years, should the uni not have taken up some renovation or at least provided another coat of paint before they decided to reopen. Toilet renovation was in the pipeline but postponed on the persuasion of the SJA. NUJS is practically a slum. 2 people stay in rooms meant for one. The campus floods and toilets overflow even if there are mild drizzles. Toilet renovation was the least that could be done.
Above all the decision was majoritarian and not inclusive. Concerns and very concerns were raised in the gb meetings which the SJA visibly tried to avoid. The Honorable Key office Holders (R, I hope Im not attacking anybody personally now) of the SJA dont respond to messages. Where are we supposed to go?
