We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

1. Recognise Patterns - I missed βbeβ all the time while typing and never caught it, and had minor dyslexia type issues particularly βlβ and βIβ, βNβ and βHβ. Once you spot your patterns you can make sure to check for them.
2. Develop a system: I made it a habit to re-read everything at least a few times to make sure nothing is missed and I havenβt made any silly errors. Similarly, I bought large computer screens, worked with docs and emails in very large font or high zoom and also went through a phase of printing and reading docs before sending them which seemed to work for me. Experiment around with such changes (particularly getting off a small laptop screen to large one) till they become second nature and youβll see lots of these issues go away.
3. Seek support: If docs can be proof-read by a peer, junior or intern - budget 30 min to seek support of another review. Plug the mistakes youβd made back into the database for 1. above.
4. Seek Time: the above will slow you down a little bit to start. Set timeline expectations with a bit of a buffer for the above and explain the rationale to reporting personnel - βI like to triple check the work so that no silly mistakes creep in - please allow me an hour or so moreβ.
5. Be patient, be calm - this aspect of corporate legal practice is muscle memory, patience, neural connections - like any other skill. Some people jump on the bike and are racing away, some take time to find balance. Itβll come .
6. Be confident - this can become a negative feedback loop - remind yourself of your positives and focus on those. Treat these issues as minor challenges to overcome.
Regulate your breathing. Don't fiddle around. Don't let your eyes run - blink slowly once when you turn from one page to next.
In my initial years, I used to become blank in meetings despite thorough preparation. Talked to a partner - advised me to make notes from business perspective - what will be the concerns of business? Timelines? Most critical things, etc.? He also made me sit with him a couple of times to observe how he prepared for the call. It made a lot of difference.
At this moment, don't worry about bonus or remuneration (i.e. what would happen if you discuss your flaws), focus on overcoming the mental blocks.
One of the things happening is I read things, I see them and even think it needs to be highlighted but that does not get reflected in the work. Second thing happening is that, when I read a document more often than not, I am reading it like it with how I am perceiving it meaning if there needs a proofing change, I read it as a proof read change already and it doesn't strike me that I need to change that because in my mind I have read it as an already proofed change, not sure if anything like this happens to anyone else.
The person I report to has been on the receiving end from the partner because of my actions and I don't like that one bit and I hate myself for not giving good work, especially when I know that all these things can be easily avoided but have not been able to avoid. I go on in a negative self talk mode and things just keep getting worse mentally. I know I can give good work, I have done that in past, documents going out with hardly any comments/revisions from the partner.
And in this negative self talk, I almost every day ponder upon the question, "Why am I doing this?? I know I won't do it for the rest of my life! staying up till 2-3 am even after working 10-12 years in the field. Am I wasting time here and not trying something else??"
Any help/guidance/ self help books/Tedtalks/anything which give me something to help myself will be appreciated.
