Can you start the journey with 0 connections and build them along the way? Absolutely yes.
Having a decent litigation practice is a must. That's how you'll get into a HC Bench.
Have political or supreme business connections (or in law of course). They should be remote enough for it to not be blatantly obvious. (You marrying someone who's father is a brother-in-law with a top shot) or your siblings marrying someone from a top shot family.
Professional connections are good and helpful, but they too have a skin in the game. So blood is thicker than water at the EOD.
Elevation requires internal checks from Intelligence, therefore stay away from supremely controversial subjects and people and other things immoral.
Don't make enemies.
