My parents live in Delhi, but my extended family is based out of Rajasthan, where I may know more people and have a better support as a first gen lawyer.
There are some things I would like to know before I make a decision:
1. How's the litigation scene in Jaipur, (especiallly compared to Jodhpur and Delhi)? (I can of course occasionally take up work in Jodhpur as well, but Jaipur will be my primary jurisdiction)
2. Does it make sense to shift to Jaipur from Delhi, in terms of lifestyle, exposure, learning etc.
3. What kind of matters do we usually see in Rajasthan HC- I feel corp lit matters are comparatively very less.
4. How can one transition from Jaipur to Delhi after a few years, and if that would be better?
Obviously, initially the income etc. will be better in Delhi, but maybe Jaipur is better as a long term bet at the time of senior designation, judgeship etc.
If you are fixated on Delhi, join an Amarchand type “T1” - their litigation teams will give you a good taste of quality civil (commercial) and criminal (white-collar) disputes + with their A0/1 salaries, you'll at least be in a position to slum it with some modicum of dignity, at a Lajpat/CR Park/Kalkaji address (on sharing basis), without borrowing money from friends/ family..Don’t start your career at a Litigation Chamber in Delhi. It’s expensive, and in most cases - unsafe for women and a pure waste of time. Just not worth it. Learning the ropes in chambers is best done close to home. I speak from experience.
