My family was not in a position to fund my NLU education. I studied at an NLU after taking a loan, did freelance work to support my expenses, got offers from a few top firms after graduation, worked at one for a year and a half, saved money to pay substantial part of the loan, got a full scholarship to a college in UK for my LLM, came back, cleared UGC NET and joined one of the NLUs as a teacher. Been teaching there for a while now. The money isn't that bad, especially after 7th CPC. The hours are excellent and flexible. I can still freelance outside at my choice for legal consultations if I wish to earn extra. I'm paid around 14 lpa now after 5 years. Quite happy teaching too, and have got an excellent work life balance. My needs are less and I don't regret my choices, despite occasional bouts of frustration at the usual inefficiency of the NLU admin.
