Tier I or any chamber?
1.) Basics of Accounting - Methods of Accounting (Mercantile, Cash, etc.), a basic understanding of the Balance Sheet, etc. Please don't stress if you aren't from a commerce background. Give yourself time and you'll get the hang of it. Ask a CA/CS friend if they have their Level One notes for accounts. Or go to the ICAI/ICSI website where you will find the entire material.
2.) Read up on Faceless Assessment/Appeals since a large number of the Writs being filed in Income Tax matters currently are pertaining to this. (Go to the CBDT website-You'll get all the info that you need)
3.) Income Tax provisions are lenghthy so during the internship you will feel the urge to skip reading the bare act and directly skip to articles and case laws. I implore you to not do that. Might be draining but it will help build your skills of reading a bare act and will serve you well in the long run. To read those provisions- brush up on your interpretation skills.
A few more things -
1.) Ask - Ask - Ask for work.
2.) If you're given somehting to draft try to stick to the Font, Line Spacing,etc. the firm uses. If not try and stick to the usual fonts (Times New Roman,Cambria,etc.) line spacing at1.15/1.5 and always justify your paragraphs.
3.) Read Justice Gautam Patel's internship starter kit. Had leaked a few years back. I dont know if it;s still available on the internet but if you do find it, please do read it.
