The only reason 3 year LLB lost its charm was because of the reason that top law schools in the country did not offer it (read: NLUs). This, as a result, made students more likely to choose 5Y LLB.

Now, students will have the option of pursuing a highly valued graduation first (read MBBS, IIT, DU), and then a highly valued law degree from NLS (and rest NLUs will soon follow suit).

What do you (skeptics of 3Y LLB) think they will choose?

Let those who claim that programme to yield good placement produce the citation. Jindal overall places around 50 students in decent firms/in-house now every year. Their 5 year and 3 year programme together has almost 900 students now. Out of the 50, majority are from the 5 year programme. You do the math.

Look at placement stats for 3yr llb of RGSOIPL and JGLS, they are poor, of course they do not have the brand name of NLSIU in job market but still it will be difficult to replicate 5 yr llb recruitment success in 3yr batches. Furthermore, there is always the chance of cannibalistic pressure on 5 yr recruitment. Lets see how it proceeds, looking forward to the outcome in 2025.

@R: If you are saying that this comment is being factually contested, then I am contesting the OP that says Jindal 3 Year grads have got good placement, because there is no data to show that either. Please be consistent.

Recruiter here. I don't ask too many questions about the law when I am interviewing candidates. I try to find out if they can think for themselves, are not afraid to push back or challenge things, and know how to handle pressure.

The law can be learned. It's my responsibility as a senior to make sure my juniors learn what they are supposed to know.

That kid who can talk Foucault and Ambedkar is more interesting to me, and more valuable, than someone who has mugged up the latest press note, and regurgitates it at interviews to impress recruiters.

Jindal's 3 year LLB grads don't have good placement at all. Not even 5% of the batch gets placed. Many people are hired laterally later that the university has been trying to pass off as campus placement. Please do not spread misinformation. Further, if NLSIU's 3 year LLB doesn't harm their own 5 year placement, there's no reason why the rest are going to get affected.

1. STUDENT PROFILE:

Recruiters will prefer a Stephen's/Hindu/LSR/SSRC grad with an NLSIU LLB than a NALSAR/NUJS/NLUD/other NLU 5 year BALLB product. It's a combination of brand name and graduates in streams like Eco and BCom having useful skills that BALLBs won't. While BALLBs were studying Foucault and Ambedkar in their first year, these guys were learning skills that will come useful in legal practice. Furthermore, Jindal's 3 year LLB has attracted students with degrees from reputed universities abroad, who were not keen to go to DU because of the bad state of affairs there. Some have been recruited by Magic Circle firms. These grads from foreign universities will now choose NLSIU over Jindal. Also, don't think that only fresh grads will go for the 3 year LLB. There will be a few people with full-time work ex who will look to switch careers. They will have a clear edge.

2. SUDHIR'S MARKETING:

Sudhir is very good at marketing and hype. He will aggressively promote this course. Just see how actively NLSIU is promoting the MPP on social media.

3. GOVERNMENT FUNDING:

It's well-known that Sudhir and alumni have a long term goal of applying for Institution of National Importance Status , like IITs. Starting a 3 year programme will improve their chances. Even without INI status, the government is likely to pour more funds into NLSIU for this.
