I think this is a stellar achievement by any measure. I'm also aware of the Uber GC (USA and India both) being from NUJS.

Recently remember reading Damini Bhalla (NALSAR) becoming Zomato's GC.

So, just trying to create a thread list of GCs from different colleges for general reference (not a "my college is better than yours" contest).

SLS and GLC have the most number of GCs (greater than NLS, NALSAR and NUJS). SLS in fact has the most number of people working in diverse in-house companies where you’ll rarely find a student from a different law school. I wonder if it’s business school and business school alumni have a role to play in that. Also don’t ask for sources, obviously no formal survey on GCs has been conducted let alone their alma mater but a mere linkedin stalking session will give you the results.

Hate to break it to you OP, but the majority of NLSIU students don't look upon alumni who are desi law firm partners and desi GCs. The alumni they look up to are people like Gopal Shanks, Menaka G, Dipen Sabharwal, Nandan Nelvigi, Shamnad Basheer, Tarunabh Khaitan etc. In other words, global achievers or people who make a social impact or people who found something. In my view, all law schools should do so. Look at the IITs. Their star alumni are not some chief engineer at Tata or Bajaj, but rather Sundar Pichai, Raghuram Rajan, Sachin Bansal etc.

OP is a first year kid freeriding on the achievements of super-senior alumni of the Madhava Menon generation. NUJS is now a completely different college with a VC not even 1/100 of the stature of Menon, Chimni and MP Singh,and with faculty not even 1/100 of the ability of teachers employed by these legendary VCs (who include Upendra Baxi, Ruma Pal, Shamnad Basheer and Sudhir Krishnaswamy).

NUJS students are no longer of the same quality either. All the current lot are interested in are easy grades, zero workload, licence to chill year-round, and a job that pays well without looking at your calibre too closely. Majority faculty are exactly what these students deserve. The one or two decent people still left are disgusted with the way the admin panders to the every demand of students at the cost of academic quality. Like begets like.

Please.....get over making lists of partners, GCs and Counsels from particular law schools. These lists are misleading as law Schools have a limited to almost nil role in the professional development of individuals. Especially at these levels. Instead, publish their interview and allow open access.

All those who are saying information is no accurate, your opinions are based on outdated linkedin profiles. What I am telling you is directly from our regularly updated alumni records. And I know the difference between gc and in house counsel. All of these people lead a team of juniors. It's tough to explain the intricacies but a lot of large firms have different gcs for different functions fir example a gc for documentation and compliance, another one for cybersecurity and they all directly report to the chief and senior executives. R should really reconsider before marking it facts contested

Director does not mean GC . In many MNC companies, Director is typically a mid-senior level designation at par with Assistant / Associate General Counsel. They may or may not have a team reporting to them as some may be individual contributors. GC is typically a VP or SVP and will have many Directors/ AGC reporting him.
