Being in RGNUL is like being on paid vacation. You can choose to do something meaningful but most just choose to have a great (read: drunken) time. There is little to no placement support or academic guidance as the professors are quite frankly, crap. However, you’ll get to meet some great people and build relationships that’ll last for life. I quite enjoyed my five years at RGNUL - drinking, smoking, whoring with half the girls’ hostel. Made some great friends. Now I’m working at a T1. So it all depends on what you make of it, really.

There is no reason not to believe that Bajpai won't transform RGNUL either, given Bajpai's track record at NLUD, and his recent changes which the OP referred to, and which I know for a fact are true. He's tried more for the students in a few months than the previous VC during his entire tenure, as I have been told by numerous seniors.

The OP in this thread did not promise placements, he's said the extent to which RGNUL will improve remains to be seen. I do not see how that js propaganda, since it logically follows that good measures for the students will definitely lead to atleast some improvement.

How many times have firms had the opportunity to visit the campus under Bajpai? Zero.

Even if Bajpai does the bare minimum of simply inviting law firms, it will be a massive improvement to Jaswal's policy of refusing firms a place to stay in the guest house while they visit the campus to recruit.

And even by your inaccurate estimate, placements might pick up after 3-4 years, which will benefit the "existent bacha log". That is exactly what I'm saying, so how am I lying to them?

Have a positive outlook Bajpai Ji, You are a game changer. You should change everything. Fire any Ast Prof who has come in via influence. Even better, you can let the students teach themselves as I believe any average Student who studies the subject for a bare minimum of 1 hour can do a better job at taking lectures than the below-zenith-average dumb profs who are clueless about the job themselves!

Mr. Bajpai, you should start by evaluating your own Registrar who teaches pathetically. I can vouch that the even the dumbest Ast. prof is way better than the Registrar at teaching.

To be honest, Registrar post should be left vacant instead of hiring such smartys.

And yes, Lets not get away by saying that Registrar's job is to manage the University and stuff, as he is clearly incapable of doing that as well! I guess you too are well aware of the same, LOL.

Jokes apart, Mr. Bajpai, RGNUL Students are brilliant, its the teachers and the Registrar who have made RGNUL this huge a blunder!

Lastly, just a suggestion, let's start the cleaning from the top, shall we? Right from our dear most honorable and venerated ultra smart & professional Registrar.

I think you might be good guy, for a change!

But what are u planning to do about the teachers who already have been hired by Jaswal? Majority of them (Ast. profs) are good-for-nothing and lack even the basic knowledge of law. Pathetic would be the right word to describe them. I remember one Ast. Prof even acknowledged shamelessly that she hadn't opened the Bare Act ( Bare Minimum) for several years! Another prof(Hint-Love) is totally clueless and reads her ppts in class like a parrot (Not to mention her inability to answer the basic question asked in class).

Moreover, even the constitutional law profs who used to be good are not putting in the effort! Fuller Sir seems alright, but the other one (Hint-Lucky) talks rubbish all the time and asks students stupid questions totally unrelated to the topic involved.

I'm sorry to say this but I think even an average 2nd year student can teach in a better manner than the majority of teacher at RGNUL. The profs are undoubtedly the filth of RGNUL and until and unless they are removed, RGNUL will remain the same boring stupid place academically.

Also, many of the teachers talk in Punjabi/Hindi during teaching.

To summarize, RGNUL has profs who are incapable of satisfactorily conveying even the basic knowledge of law (which too majority of profs lack). Basically, No Communication Skills, No Research Skills, No Knowledge about law and not eligible to be in an NLU.

That's RGNUL for you. Hope you understand.

People on here are right about how RGNUL used to be under the previous VC, who did not allow firms on campus due to his desire of pushing people towards lit/judiciary.

However, under Bajpai, things are definitely going to improve, although it remains to be seen to what extent.

Since his arrival, Bajpai has hired new professors, started new cells, implemented a more rigorous academic curriculum, introduced several changes to the teaching pedagogy, initiated student-friendly reimbursement policy for competitions, and promised to work on placements, among a host of other changes.

I am hopeful that RGNUL will finally achieve it's potential and shake off its stagnancy.

The College is great if you want to chill, drink / do drugs, participate in moots, and do some good quality aashiqi. The city is mostly quaint and chandigarh is near enough to visit once every few weeks. The food in this city is also amazing - and there is something at every price range. The pubs are quite cheap too. Even the bare bone dhabas outside the Uni in Sidhuwal have great food. Having AC in the rooms, and good quality furniture and facilities were also great. The sports culture is another good aspect. And Bhangra - if you like it, this is the place. God, there was so much bhangra in RGNUL!

Now the not so great part. The only quality professor (at least during my time) were Prof M Sharma and Prof Mahajan. Then there were passable professors like Prof V Kumar, T Mander, S Taak, Late KC Garg, and S Dhaliwal (may have missed a few more). Generally, the BA professors overall were of significant better pedigree compared to the law professors. I obviously cannot speak of the new hires. However, the majority of the law profs (who remain till date) are not only bad, they are idiots. They will fail to work as an A0 in a tier 3 firm or a new joinee in an advocate's chamber. Their knowledge of law is 0. They mostly just read the bare act out in class or read out RK Bangia (actually happened). Some professors even used to make us watch movies, play dumb charades to pass time (in IV / V year specialisation classes). So, if you want good quality academic guidance - dont go to RGNUL. The general academic culture is pretty shitty too - publications both internal and external are all CCP there is almost no independent intellectual thought. Even the PhD candidates are shitty. Every year people do research on the bloody same topic - the future of criminal justice in India (or some variation of it). If the college / PhD candidates did any actual research - RGNUL would have become a flag bearer of criminal law jurisprudence in India. Unfortunately, the culture of this college is extremely non-academic. Further, as drugs and hard liquor flow like water, the general temperament of students are also pretty bad. Very few motivated kids there and therefore, the college sees very few success in placements or representations in law firm / chambers. Most kids from RGNUL are genuinely not or any merit.

But if you are good and focussed, you can achieve placements on your own. While RGNUL boasts very very few good quality alumni - most of the good kids have ended up in tier 1 firms after graduation. The representation of RGNUL in law firms is low - because very very few motivated and good students graduate from it. This is not to say that good kids do not enter RGNUL. The academic and general culture of the Uni causes most students to lose focus and wash away. But - if you can balance the vices, it is a great place.

BTW, had a great time there and drank my liver out. Will recommend 10/10.

Batch of 23 here, last two years have not been great in terms of placements, many lower ranked NLUs or some private colleges have better placements. Even out of those who got placed most of them are PPO. There's a reason why we dont boast of placement data on LinkedIn, because there isn't any to show.

Have heard that the culture is more oriented towards litigation and cracking judiciary exams (the lack of placement is a cause or an effect of the same I'm unsure). All that said if you want a HIGH-fi (HIGH in caps) college life topped with AC rooms then no better place. Most people from up North (even those ranked as low as 500-700) prefer it over NLOU, HNLU solely due to its geography, but otherwise more or less similar to NLOU and a notch below HNLU (without a question). With RML there is very little to separate, maybe a 1.1x advantage to RML.

Again all these are so called tier 2 NLUs (prolly tier 3 if you consider NLUJ, GNLU, Bhopal as tier 2), hence your placements are ensured only if you slog hard and not because you have the NLU/NUL tag on the top left of your CV cover, therefore you won't commit cardinal sin with choosing any over other.

I heard placements are non-existent and quality of faculty is also pathetic.

So I ask again, How good is it?
