What is tech law even. 3 firms practice it and even then it's in the scope of PE/VC investment. Just apply, if you like the work stay/else bounce off.
come on sir, please get real. TMT is a fairly specialised nd emerging practice. Yes, 3 firms monopolise it but several others work on TMT, there is enough work in the market. VC investments is not tech work, that is something pretty much all firms do today. SAM, Tri, Ikigai, NDA, Indus are good places to do real tech work.
Consulting lol. Law firm kids are so desperate to have some relevance. Ikgai pays 30k, real consulting firms pay 300k
20% tech work, 30% marketing & 50% attitude. Principles of this law firm on a regular day.
What's the pay for associate / SA level and what's the work life balance like?
It's only about 10 under 10, 20 under 20, 30 under 30, and 40 under 40. They don't practice law... in law they are 0 under 0.
Mostly involved in media bytes here and there and hanging on to the 'in' and 'buzz' things like crypto etc.
Marketing, yes! But they (also :)) do solid tech work. A lot of big name clients..
Fantastic reputation for tech law. hard core tech work, not just VC investments into tech. I would say the firm is in line with the other really good tmt practices in the country that are Trilegal and NDA. And ask someone who has to cut the cheques, they command a premium billing given the niche work they do.
But ranked Band 2 by Legal500 and Chambers for TMT, Fintech and band 1 for data. Chambers says "increasingly sought after by clients for its experience handling complex work". Can Chambers and Legal500 rankings be trusted???? It also mentions key Clients of the firm are CoinDCX, MPL, Amazon, Sequoia, Nasscom, Cred, Fampay, IAMAI & it mentions details of work too: Helped NASSCOM examine impact of Shrems II on data transfers between the EU and India/Undertook a comprehensive review of the MPL platform to assess regulatory compliance/Advised CoinDCX on restructuring its global operations on account of regulatory changes in India& Singapore/Advised FamPayβ€―on the launch of India’s first numberless payments card etc. Surely these are FACTUAL statements? The rankings are here: https://www.legal500.com/firms/34817-ikigai-law/35630-new-delhi-india/#section-109006
I have also heard good things about the work culture and pay but can someone tell more about this? I am also concerned that the work is too specialised. Any advice?
bhai kaafi research kii hai, interview mein kaam ayega. its a good firm, good people distinctly good work culture. to your question on work at Ikigai being too specialised, TMT is meant to be a specialised work stream. A lot of firms do PE/VC in the garb of TMT. But if you want to do core tech work you will find it at Ikigai, NDA, Trilegal, Spice and to some extent at SAM, Indus and Kochhar.
Don't fall for the rubbish that jealous competitors spread - this is a good firm with a strong policy bent. And yes, they hire freshers. And yes, they do more tech and policy work than the older, larger law firms.
Ikigai is not a law firm. It is not even comparable to legacy law firms. At best, it is a startup masquerading as a potential law firm (fooling clients). If someone is really interested please see their attrition rates.
oh then sorry to break it to you but they manage to 'fool' (read attract) quite a few big name clients. stop fooling the readers please.

I had joined as a fresher and left the firm after 3 years. Very good starting point for a fresher. All round exposure to the tech space. I believe they still hire freshers in good number.
