I just don't enjoy the work in my practice area and it turned out to be completely different from what I had thought it would be.
But keep your job while you appear for interviews - your negotiating power will be far better. They'll know you're not desperate to accept their job.
If they're rude/indifferent - feel free. Firms screw over retainers in all possible manners so you owe nothing to anyone. Just don't be a dick or otherwise burn bridges.
There is always a dearth of talent especially the higher you go.
