Having someone tall in the domain speak to the freshers was a practice that was started by Prof Madhava Menon way back in 1988. In the past, legends like Nani Palkhiwala, Fali Nariman, Anil Dewan, etc., have spoken on the orientation day for new batches. Their very presence is electrifying, and every word loaded with wisdom, though most of it may just fly over the head of the freshers :-)
This is quite a lineup. I think there is no doubt that the highest profile and biggest brand in legal education is NLSUI now with Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy. Just see the lineup he has arranged to basically speak to students on their first days in the college. As a non-NLS student I am quite envious.
