What Jindal is being hated on is about privilege. NLU kids raging against jindal as if passing CLAT is often not a huge accomplishment made possible due to privilege. I don't think the issue is Jindal v. NLUs but the elitism of the entire legal fraternity that has such a high barrier to entry may it be monetary, language, or even connections. You pay a larger premium for Jindal but you pay a premium for NLUs too. With all the coaching fees and college fees you’ve paid, you’re privileged too. That’s like a guy with honda civic calling out someone with a BMW. The problem is not about our privilege, we acknowledge it too. The problem is NLU kids absolving themselves of privilege in doing so. The fees that you’re paying for your university is more than what most Indian earn, stop calling your underprivileged because no you’re not.
It's great to study in a good institution which offers incredible opportunities, but it doesn't erase the immense amount of caste and class privilege it takes to study here. It's delusional to assume that most people in Indian law schools are inherently "meritorious". The ability to study in good schools, having access to extra curricular opportunities and exposure to different experiences, to afford coaching classes to take entrance exams does not exist in a vacuum. It's not an insult to acknowledge that this access is rooted in privilege. It's an open secret that top internships are based on referrals (which come from social privilege), admissions are based on letters of recommendation (which you are able to access because of privilege) or enrolling in activities that you can afford to undertake (privilege). No one is seeking to take these opportunities away from you, but to think that they make you inherently better or innately meritorious is completely bullshit. It's okay to acknowledge that you are well placed because of the social structures that sustain you. Without even recognising these structures, it's impossible to even move towards breaking them or modifying them to ensure that more people have access to "merit". also LSAT literally measures your English comprehension which is obviously limited to a very small section of the Indian society, and CLAT is a glorified lottery that tests random trivia which you may or may not have learned.
We’ve been trying to get end sems cancelled optionally for ALL LAW STUDENTS and here y’all are targeting us. We would stand right beside you if you target Jindal for it’s fees and perpetuating privilege. But then you go ahead and slutshame the girl who made the first tweet on twitter which triggered all of this, really? It pisses me off because everytime I go for an internship and tell people I am from Jindal, i get that look and I have to explain how I am not as privileged as most of my batchmates at Jindal. I don’t want to explain or compare my privilege with others because just because i am getting educated in Jindal even if on a full fee waiver, I know I am more privileged than a lot who don’t get education. I get pissed, many a times, I don’t get stipends but others do. I get pissed because I have to explain everything or I’ll be treated like trash.
I don’t know what your fight is against because most of you hating on privilege get into tier 1 law firms and send your kids to Jindal or abroad. Diss the university, don’t bully the students. And maybe we could first get the end sems cancelled and then fight about this NLU-Jindal privilege on twitter?

24 seats for foreign nationals in NALSAR, isn’t that like 1/3 or 1/4 of your batch size. Charity begins at home? Call out NRI quota? I am all in for calling out Jindal for exclusionary environment. But if you’re picking on your neighbor and ignoring the oppression in your home, you’re doing it out of anything (call it jealousy) but concern for societal issues.
Things should be better when students start knowing each other again.
Your NRI quota fees is still something close and even more in some circumstances to what Jindal charges. Even if they are from SAARC, that doesn’t mean the fees gets lower for them, these are basically rich people. And there’s no diversity, these are all Indians because you don’t have to be an NRI but have to be sponsored by an NRI which is easy af. OP talks about how you guys get defensive and try to absolve yourself of your privilege, try and accept it if you want to point fingers at others.
Very conveniently ignored the article published on LI about class and origins of students in NLUs. At this moment, I could literally get any student in any top NLU via NRI sponsored quota so you’re not meritorious either. You’re just acting like you’re meritorious. Try and acknowledge some of it. Won’t affect your placements dw.

Not a JGLS student. Not a NLU student either. But I’ve followed this entire fiasco. This was really not needed.
It started with tweets from primarily two people I have the screenshots but I don’t i think I should mention the usernames for privacy. One of those two people was a 14 year old anti caste activist who tweeted, “ Never understood how kids from Ashoka and Jindal mention their colleges with so much pride. Like please keep that shit to yourself it's embarrassing” which was out of nowhere. Then came another tweet or comment from a law student on jindal kid’s og tweet which was related to the ongoing cancellation of exams, which went like “they really do argue about the lack of merit while sitting in Jindal. If u are in a private university, work with the assumption that u have no merit”.
This was replied by Jindal kid and her tweets triggered a huge uproar. Two of her tweets went like this, “Sorry I was born to two people who could afford decent education for their child and didn’t want me to spend my 20s from the ragging and harassment going on in govt colleges” and then “My LSAT score was 98.9 and I came in the top 500 rank of AILET. I’ve been a straight A student and topper all my life, with a CV that doesn’t have the word “participation” in it. I cleared 30 great college entrances across the country and Jindal gave me a free ride. But pls go on.”
The tweets jindal students went viral and she started beefing with 3-4 NLU kids who replied to the comment. She further posted her AILET and CLAT results to prove her point and merit. And this attempt of her trying to prove her ranks was trolled heavily. This trolling soon turned into bullying when some kids made sexual slurs amongst other kind of objectionable comments against her. When this started some jgls kids came to her defence and this incited more NLU students to join forces. Subsequently Jindal and its students were targeted.
My opinion hereon:-
JGLS student’s tweet might be problematic but what’s more problematic is the tweet that she replied to. “they really do argue about the lack of merit while sitting in Jindal. If u are in a private university, work with the assumption that u have no merit”— this is the real problem. This kind of ideology and superiority complex is extremely problematic. Students from private colleges are beating government colleges in jobs that are acquired through merit, moots, debates and what not. As pointed out by OP getting into an NLU is a cakewalk thanks to NRI reservations. Universities like Symbiosis, Nirma and NMIMS are consistently ranked above most of your government NLUs and are performing everywhere.
The only thing is that when an NLU student calls out Jindal for LSAT or it’s fees they ignore what’s going on in their home. When the same is called out, they get defensive instead of acknowledging it. When this happens, then this display of concern about privilege from NLU Student doesn’t seem to come along with a good faith and a position where the student advocates more access. It seems to come from a position where the student is trying to slander a rival university out of envy, contempt and discriminatory intention which have been experienced by JGLS students on probably the comments section of every news article on JGLS published by LI and workplaces.
This is the problem. If you go to twitter, you will find most of the JGLS students are themselves calling out their university (check @[...] for reference, Kian you can censor the username if it’s not allowed). English as a language doesn’t ensure access to everyone in India. Jindal by charging exorbitant fees blocks access to a massive population in India. Jindal needs to be called out, NOT THE STUDENTS! But when NLU students who are hyperactive in opposing Jindal’s exclusionary fees and entrance are asked to call out the privilege in their universities and how law as a profession is extremely exclusionary, they either evade the conversation or get defensive which can be seen in the above-stated comments as well.
If your university were inclusive enough, IDIA would never have been needed.
- Jealousy against a younger college having better faculty better than all NLUs except perhaps NLSIU, infrastructure better than all NLUs and placements better than 80% of NLUs
- Jealousy against this younger college haven a QS rank (that too top 100) and IOE status
- Middle class jealousy of the rich
Regarding your other claims, which no one asked for or discussed but you still provided anyway:
1. None of you can ever prove your placements. I have many friends from jindal's graduating and penultimate years and they are all worried about their jobs. SAM and CAM have taken 2-3 people each last year during day Zero from a batch of 420 law students [300 BALLB and 120 BBA LLB]. From what I know, the intake was over 1000 people for all Jindal schools from 2018 and after, and there is no way your placements can ever cover 10% of that. There have been no TCs for magic circle firms ever. I personally don't think corporate placements are indicative of anything, but since you brought up "better than 80% of NLUs", you better be able to prove it.
2. No one cares about QS lol, especially employers. If you think the ranking means anything - Law schools in India are at an inherent disadvantage, because they are not multi-disciplinary with 4000 students, but more focused on law. All NLUs together take less than the intake of Jindal across it's schools lol, so this ranking is nothing to flaunt. But you do you, keep checking under your bed for middle class students there to take revenge on you
