Hey man, pretty sure the current student body wanted to highlight this in media. They're sick of the non chalant behaviour by the admin. Moreover, the open house was a meaningless affair which culminated in nothing positive in terms of student welfare.

I'm in the college too, and an arbitrary NIRF rank doesn't tell the whole story. Hope you understand.

Well for starters the Dictator has mandated that students finish 4, and for some batches 5, exams in 5 days. No breaks, nothing. This has gotten so worse that some people have to write 2 exams in a single day, with each exam being for 4 hours each. Just how cruel and apathetic one can get is what the Dictator is showing with such ease.

If the concern is that nls faculty can't set the kind of papers which are suitable for openbook exams over a day or two, it's stupid. People like Aparna, Mrinal, and so many of the fantastic faculty at nls are capable of doing so.
Academic integrity is important and it does not have to be compromised to be empathetic. Why don't you give students a two week period within which they can take their exams? It is not impossible to set question papers where even though you have extra time, you still have to think and solve the paper.
Any fifth year at nlud giving ak Rai's insurance paper can tell you this - even if you give us a week to just do his paper, it is still a rigorous exam. Any nls or nlud student to ever have taken ak Rai's course can vouch for his ability to set such papers. Im sure there are a ton of profs at nls who can do the same for their courses.

If nls is concerned about teachers who can't set standard question papers for open book, such courses and exams are scams anyway.

Im sure nls students are not asking for easy grades, they are just asking to be treated in a humane manner in these shitty times. What should a kid do if they have two exams tomorrow, but they find a vaccine slot for tomorrow and don't know when they'll be able to find a slot next?

Unbecoming of the nls administration. I hope they become a bit more sensible and sensitive.

People have to be taught in that way for the exam paper to be framed in that way. For Rai, that's the regular way. The new hires at NLSIU can't have done a lot of teaching, nor is it fair on the students to expect them to appear for a paper set in a different maner than what they have been prepared for. The policy should have been implemented at the beginning of the trimester and then conveyed to all the faculty. Not only NLUD, several other NLUs at least told their teachers thus and can hold such exams now over 12-24 hours if they really want to.

5 exams in 5 days isn't really a big deal like the students these days make it to be. Plenty of earlier batches have managed it without complaining. If you have studied throughout the trimester, then there's no reason why you would need 'study leave' a day before the exam. Of course, 2 exams of 4-hour each in the same day can be a bit taxing, which can be scheduled differently. But it looks like the admin is simply sending you the message not to take your exams but your studies more seriously. That's not a bad suggestion per se.

I don't which part of your comment is the most disgusting. Wait, I got it, it is the fact that you conveniently choose to ignore that the situation in which "earlier batches" wrote exams is anything but similar to what current batches are writing in. Also, "bit" taxing lol.

Nothing disgusting about it. You are being encouraged not to think about exams and take those as seriously as a heart attack. They want you to sit before a screen for 4 hours a day and type something, do that. Then focus on what's actually important, which is surviving and helping others. If you still think your CGPA is what is important now, then your mindset isn't much different from those whom you are blaming now.

Care to throw light on the 'NLUD way of examination' during the pandemic? We're not perfect, but I'm proud of the empathy the admin has shown during the pandemic. Several measures to ensure relief to the student body at large, and some others to create flexibility for individual requests.

But alas, of what use is space to recover/grieve, if at the expense of aCaDeMiC rIgOur. Amirite?

It's better now and yes, the admin has been surprisingly considerate during the pandemic, especially given the fact that they wouldn't give a rat's ass about the wellbeing of students before. But, I think we both know we'll go back to 5 days 5 exams when we switch back to an offline semester.

Exactly. Learn empathy from the nlud admin! They gave a 3 week holiday during the second wave. Cut down the syllabus by 30%. So students don't have to study as much. Gave take home exams. Also, 30% of the marks are now an average of marks obtained in previous sems. So students don't have to worry about grades also. That is how it is done. No stress about classes, no stress about studies, no stress about grades. Students can focus on more important things.

You know more about what students at NLUD are doing than the students themselves, is it? Perhaps the 30% syllabus that has been cut is more important than taking care of oneself or ones parents, in these times. Also fwiw, profs are taking classes for the said 30% and recoridng them so students can refer to them.

I think the outbreak is what made them empathetic, perhaps a bit more than they already were. NLUD had been supportive from the very start of the pandemic it has only increased in the second wave. Fees reduction, waiver for those who need it, open book exams, and the likes have been there since the start.

Do tell, why is it that some people have to write 2 exams in a single day? Because they have carry-over subjects or might be year-loss types. This is nothing new. When we were in Law School, no accommodations were ever made by Menon either, which is what gave us the rigour and work ethic to handle all this. In the real world, in court, on transactions, no one is going to give you relaxed deadlines because you feel you can't handle back to back work.
If it is this sense of entitlement that Sudhir is against, then I don't fault him much.

Tbh, whatever you can do in life with an NLS degree, you can with a degree from any of the top 5 NLUs - getting a tier 1 corp job, getting into the top foreign universities, working with top think tanks, becoming a good litigator, cracking the civils/judicial services (which is the last thing dependent on your college). Given that premise, the mental harassment at NLS in the name of some pretentious academic rigour isn't worth it. You can chill at a NALSAR and an NUJS or an NLUJ for 5 years and be at the same place 10 years down the lane that someone after banging their head at NLS or NLUD would be. The extra time also gives you the chance to develop your personalities in multiple other ways.
