End of the day, there is plenty of space for everyone in the legal market and we are not intent on competing with B&B or LiveLaw, which have both done incredibly well in their own ways. LI, however, has always been a bit more scrappy and much more happy to carve out our own niche by doing our own thing(s) in our own way(s).
B&B and LiveLaw almost certainly have more traffic than LI these days but they obviously have very different core audiences, targeting the much larger pan-India population of advocates and also non-lawyers / news hounds with breaking court reports (effectively directly competing with / complementing coverage of national newspapers and TV stations on that beat, which is a much larger pie).
LI doesn't do that and we decided a while ago that going for court reports and competing for numbers in that space was not for us for a variety of reasons. Instead LI aims to cover the things no-one else covers, and we hope we can cover these differently, better and (usually) earlier than anyone else. We also hope that provides unique value, transparency, discussion and also sometimes a bit of entertainment in these sometime dark days to our core readership.
So do we believe are our core readers? Primarily Indian and foreign corporate lawyers, as well as law students, aspirants academics and other lawyers with an interest in legal careers, institutions and organisations. However, we will hopefully keep evolving and changing with the times and the preferences of readers, so if we've left you out of the above list and have ideas for what we should cover, improve or change, please let us know, we are always listening.

The landmark SC judgment passed on 21.05.2021 on the validity of NCLT's notification of 2019 to proceed against personal guarantors was conspicuous by its absence on LI while B&B in no time reported this landmark ruling.
LI - promotions, deals, jumping ship reports etc.
B&B- promotions, interviews with people from the legal fraternity.
While B&B reports after getting a byte, i have seen LI often jumps the gun and then add tadka [ read: Update] and their own take on the story.
On a side note it will be interesting to see the number of unique visitors who visit LI and B&B and do a comparo. I bet they have a stat counter thing for that. I feel LI will be miles ahead given their discussion forum on Shuva's move has gone into overdrive.
having said that it is important for a legal tabloid to make 'meaningful contribution' to sustain instead of a juicy tabloid which just has nuisance value.
I think LI needs to reinvent itself. It can do so in multiple ways. Revive MPL rankings and placement rankings, target new sections of readers (like CLAT and UPSC aspirants, students of lesser known NLUs and other law colleges etc), do some investigative stories which will make headlines and make even politicians take notice etc etc.
Another option is to merge LI with an MSM media house, but not too big as that may lead to stories being censored. The Wire could be a good choice. Others could be Scroll, EdXLive, Janta Ka Reporter, Youth Ki Awaaz, Barkha Dutt's Mojo etc.
