We are considering overhauling the way threads are moderated and involving the community more in that, though it may be hard arriving at a consensus about exactly where to draw the line, so feedback on the above is much appreciated.
Some of this may also be solved by allowing readers to completely hide conversations about certain topics, such as Covid bioweapons, though to be honest some of the responses and the like in that comment are also fairly amusing and harmless if they are moderated strictly and fake news, propaganda or conspiracy theories are weeded out somewhat...
Reader opinions on this are very welcome.
What is happening is - distraction from the official gossip by frivolous gossip/questions.
The cancerous portions of these conversations could be traced to three sources:
I. Salary: The most toxic of all, these conversations might warp a person's perspective into channeling all his efforts into being the best paid worker. The practice of law is much more than money. No conversation (as far as I could see) was about the joy of law, the adventures of litigation, the satisfaction in legal aid, or developing the quiet professionalism seen in doyens of the bar. The law firm crowd with their "Tiers" have made legal profession equipollent to Dante's inferno. Any argument that these conversations help to seek pay parity is far removed from reality.
II. NLU slug-fests: These need to be banned. They are not only worthless but is immensely prejudicial to the average joe from the corner street college. These conversations not only betray a disgusting superiority complex, but also are discourteous to the "others" most of the time. Most of these conversations are so detached from reality, one cannot help but wonder whether these are even written by practicing professionals. LI and the readers need to remember that it is the non-nlus which constitute the back bone of justice delivery system in India. These NLU slug fests poison the fraternity among lawyers.
III. Non-law threads: For a population who neither know the basics of virology nor are qualified to speak about it, threads such as whether Covid is a bio-weapon should never be allowed. Political threads should also not be allowed as they quickly devolve into an echo chamber.
The Good portions: Threads about work-life balance, assistance and guidance to juniors, professional discussions on various practice areas (I remember the unique tax practice thread with some fantastic answers), the difference in work cultures of north and south, etc. These are informed and much needed.

Brother, if you have issues with these threads, don't read them. Live and let live. It's getting frustrating that we have to tolerate bossy folks like you at the office and now we have to bear them here as well.
What we see on LI is just a small group of people but this small group has created a vicious circle of negativity to an extent that it has started affecting people who really don’t judge the other group. There’s rivalry I agree. There’s a small feeling of contempt maybe? (because the privilege that JGLS kids hold) which is understandable. But in the end, after all of this ends, we’ll meet in the same workplace or academic space and it will be really awkward then.
Huge fan of conversations but there should be some sort of limitation coming from either LI or the student community in itself.
