Is this ethical? What do you think?
At the end of the day, as long as she doesn't write the paper herself for the students, how is this different, for instance, from rich kids who can afford a private tutor or postgraduate to help them with their studies, or having a parent or sibling who's an advocate or academic helping them, or them studying with a friend in college and jointly preparing for an essay, or even someone who has the economic resources to buy lots of textbooks to use at home that might be directly relevant to the essay topic.
What is unethical is the colleges who give strict deadlines and forcing students to write tons of exams and assignments despite the pandemic..
Also imagine yourself being from a poor family having multiple family members with life threatening Covid infections (in ICU) Would you be able to do everything. I don't know who is asking the question. But it seems you are a person with a lot of privilege at this point of time.
There are a lot of Law students who are in Government Hospitals or taking care of thier loved ones. There are students facing other crisises.
At the same time, if you are from a strict college, you will either fail in the exam or get pathetic scores.
Its unfortunate to see people questioning integrity of this girl and the ethics. Schadenfreude attitudes can be smelt in the question.
NLU students come from a ton of privilege- a lot of them are using Covid as an excuse to not do work.
As lawyers, we must look at the case neutrally and without emotion. It's absolutely clear that academic regulations have been violated and disciplinary action should be taken. Harvard would do it, NLSIU would it and thus GNLU should do it. However, the punishment may be reduced on compassionate grounds. Ordinarily, the students would be suspended for a semester, but here they may instead be asked to resubmit the project and given a warning. As for the girl, she should be given a warning not only for doing others projects but going to the media and saying it publicly.
Please think like lawyers and do not be sentimental. Rules are rules.
