Since Legally India and Bar & Bench no longer publish placement stats, can someone share numbers for foreign law firm offers for NLUs and JGLS? Past 2 to 3 years only.
Completely inaccurate. The person who commented this is either joking or a troll or both, since he has cited no supporting stats whatsoever because he really doesn't have any.
In your dreams. NLSIU on an average gets not more than 3 TCs in a year (less than 3 in last 2 years actually), NALSAR and NUJS get at least 2 in every year, NLUD averages between 1 and 2 in every year. Haven't heard of foreign firms giving more than 1 TC to any JGLS batch till date (barring one year when 2 students had got it, but JGLS batch has more than the students of all other 5 NLUs mentioned here combined, so law of averages is probably in their favour). GNLU figures I do not have access to, so cannot really say. So most of your claims are factually inaccurate.
I am from NALSAR and we could approach it in two different ways. Which law school has the most alumni working in foreign law firms? JGLS why? Because of most of their graduates pursue LLM and get placed. NGL JGLS places a lot of students in foreign law firms as well especially White & Case since jgls and white and case have some sort of pact. Just search for JGLS graduates in white and case on linkedin and youβll know what I am talking about.
Even after this I donβt believe JGLS places more number of people in foreign law firms than NLS and NALSAR. JGLS is doing good but in all in all it doesnβt alumni base like tier 1 NLUs.
Alumni doing foreign LLM and getting placed in foreign law firms afterwards cannot count as campus placement with foreign firms for a university's undergrad programme.
Out of curiosity, which firms offer TCs to Indian law students anyway? I know that HSF, A and O, and Linklaters do, but I am not aware of any other. Would love to be corrected on this.
These 3 specifically have a vacation scheme for Indian students. All the other firms take Indian students through their general vacation schemes and TC applications. This is how a few 2020 nalsar students got TCs at Skadden London etc.
Kid, listen, and this is from someone who was able to crack the process (I ended up not joining the vacation scheme for personal reasons), your law school, has no role at all to play when it comes to good foreign law firms. You can study out of a hut in Lakshwadeep and still make it. Your law firm can give you an edge in domestic placements but these firms have a very different and structured approach about who makes the cut and your law school doesn't play any meaningful role in it. So everyone who made it, they did because of their own effort (same can be said about a lot many other things too but in this case the contribution of law school is really very limited).
