No. It was from a state law University. Going from an NLU to this law uni never felt like a downgrade though, the academic rigour was higher at this uni when compared to our Tier 3 NLU. Secured a job at a good NLU right after LLM as a Research Fellow.

One thing I'd advise is to go for your PhD as early as possible. I cleared JRF my but it lapsed. I should have joined somewhere for PhD, even at a tier 3 or tier 4 college I feel.

From leading calls to running client meetings -you very well become a part of everything that happens within the firm.

The firm genuinely has an open door policy - where the partners are open to listening, understanding, and engaging with you!

In terms of placements in foreign law firms:

Hello, given that Australia has rolled out their 462 visa application window, just wanted to understand the scope of securing a job for 12 months (visa period) in Australian corporate law firms. I am a M&A/PE lawyer at a tier 1 law firm in Indian with 2 years PQE.

If that's near to impossible, please suggest any alternative roles.

Buddy why are you pursuing 5 year when you can do 3 year if you are already a graduate!

Why is the legal fraternity like this? Why do they make extra efforts in shielding and promoting such perpetrators who are anyway mediocre at their work. I unfortunately had a similar experience, when I reported about it to the senior partners, they merely pretended to care about it, ultimately they promoted him and welcomed him into partnership and of course left me with no option but to exit from the firm. The firm then continued to give negative feedback about my work to any potential employers, it took me over three years to find work again. So may be staying silent would have been the best approach, lesson learnt.

Given the high lay offs and especially in upper management levels in a lot of tech companies, I know a few of them who are looking to pivot entirely to law by signing up for a three years course. What is the possible career paths from there? Would it be easier to shift laterally (if at all, without any experience in law) as an associate? I only know of one example in such a case. Or is this is just a way to keep busy for 3 years without any definite or available path?

I am currently based in the UK, and I just wanted to make sure you were going in with eyes open. Keep an eye on the changing landscape, especially re: immigration policy, because that has been, and is likely to continue to be, changing very much over here. As for what you said about wanting to go abroad to make the most of the chances that your combo of brains (to the extent you have that) + privilege (to the extent you have that) will allow you to access, that's also a perfectly valid point (call me biased, but that was very much part of my reasoning as well to move to the UK five years ago, and I practically haven't regretted it at all, except for about an hour of madness once when I dislocated my knee and was having lots of difficulties navigating the British emergency services system, and even that regret vanished later).
